Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) announced on Saturday, December 13, that it has appointed Ira Bindra as the organisation's Group President - People and Talent. Billionaire industrialist Mukesh D Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, announced Bindra's appointment as he looks to pivot talent, skill, and people policies at the oil-to-telecom conglomerate.
RIL's functional heads usually announce talent hires at the senior level. Still, Bindra is the first recent appointment announced by Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance himself. Bindra joins RIL after a distinguished career at Medtronic, USA, where she served as the Head of Human Resources (HR) and Vice President—Global Regions. According to RIL, she has been hired to “drive transformation across the entire organisation”.
With extensive global experience spanning diverse industries, Bindra brings a wealth of expertise to Reliance. Her professional journey includes leadership roles at prominent global business powerhouses, where she spearheaded transformative HR initiatives. She has successfully navigated complex business environments across developing and developed markets, including India, the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
"Bindra joins us from Medtronic, USA, where she was the Head of Human Resources & Vice President - Global Regions," said Mukesh Ambani, Asia's richest man, in an internal organisation announcement. Bindra, 47, will be the first non-family woman and the youngest member of the group's all-powerful executive committee.
"As Group President of People and Talent at Reliance, she "will work with me, Isha, Akash, Anant and the entire EC to drive transformation across our company for People, Culture and Leadership," Ambani added. “She will partner closely with all our business and HR leaders to continue building on our foundation and help create world-class HR and people development practices,” he said.

According to RIL, Bindra is a global HR and business leader with deep domain expertise across various industries, geographies and business cycles. She has deep business and functional HR expertise across medical tech, financial services, and large industrial and global delivery centre businesses.
"Bindra has led large HR teams in Fortune 100 companies, such as GE, and has led organisations through bold business transformations, from designing new operating models, creating new business lines to executing significant divestitures, resulting in better performance and outcome," said Ambani.
Bindra's career highlights include leading large HR teams, designing innovative operating models, driving business transformations, and overseeing strategic divestitures. According to RIL, her ability to integrate business, data, and people strategies has consistently delivered measurable results.
He added that with diverse leadership roles under her belt, spanning HR business partners, talent development, technology R&D, commercial, compliance, and business transformation, she brings her expertise in blending business, data, and people strategies to impact results. “I am confident that Bindra will inspire our diverse teams with fresh perspectives and propel us to achieve even higher levels of performance,” said Ambani.

In a LinkedIn post, Bindra said she has started a new chapter in her professional journey in Reliance. "In this new role, I will be working with- The Chairman Mr. Mukesh D Ambani and Directors- Ms. Isha Ambani Piramal, Mr. Akash M Ambani, Mr. Anant M Ambani as well as the Executive Committee to drive transformation across our company for People, Culture, and Leadership..
"I look forward to this new and exciting chapter that will bring new learnings and leverage my prior experiences to propel the next chapter of growth and transformation for Reliance, in partnership with the leaders and teams at Reliance," she said. Isha, Akash and Anant are children of Ambani.

Graduate from Delhi's Lady Shri Ram College in 1998, Bindra completed her Master of Business Administration from Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands in 1999. Thereafter, she worked with GE Capital, GE India, GE Healthcare and GE Oil & Gas before joining Medtronic in May 2018.
