Mumbai: Education tech startup WhiteHat Jr., said on Tuesday that it has raised $10 million in a Series A round led by existing investors Nexus Venture Partners and impact investor Omidyar Network. Silicon Valley-based firm Owl Ventures also participated in the round as a new investor.

White Hat Jr helps kids between ages 6 to 14 build commercial-ready games, animations and apps online using the fundamentals of coding. The company, started in November 2018, had earlier raised $1.3 million in seed funding from Nexus and Omidyar Network India.

White Hat Jr has developed their own original coding curriculum, which is centered on product creation, and imparts their lessons via live, interactive online classes. The new funds will be used to strengthen their technology platform, expand the course curriculum as well as increase consumer awareness.

The startup claims to have seen over 150,000 student trials, over 500 teachers onboarded and 100% month-on-month student and revenue growth.

Ed-tech startups have been an emerging investor favourite over the last few years, led by Byju’s Classes, currently one of India’s most valuable tech startups at $5.7 billion, and investors including Sequoia Capital, General Atlantic and Qatar Investment Authority.

Mint reported on August 26 that education startup Toppr has launched live classes on its platform where students can join batches with pre-published schedules.
