Investment firm Omidyar Network India, and N/Core, a Bangalore-based incubator for non-profit organisations, on Thursday, announced a ₹3-crore ‘Research Innovation Grant’ to encourage innovation and problem-solving in land and housing inclusivity in India.
In a press statement, N/Core invited research abstracts from academic and research organisations, think-tanks, non-profits and individuals on innovative topics and themes. These could be topics such as using night light data to analyse economic activity and tenure security in informal settlements, analysing court case data using machine learning to identify judicial bottlenecks around land, and satellite imagery to analyse crop cover, the statement said.
Selected abstracts will receive grants of upto ₹25 lakh and mentoring by a distinguished advisory panel.
The Research Innovation Grant is part of a ₹16 crore-backed research collaborative by Omidyar Network India to support property rights. The collaborative includes Brookings India, NCAER, NIPFP, and N/Core, the statement added.
