Mentors—Facebook Mark Zuckerberg had one, Microsoft’s Bill Gates had one.
Even Tata Group Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata has helped many a business in India take off by saying that young and ambitious entrepreneurs need to be mentored.
The key takeaway, therefore, is that mentorship is critical for entrepreneurial success.
A start-up that has just started out might be offering a novel product or service, but there will be times when it will not have all the answers. There will be times when it will encounter obstacles—be they related to manufacturing, supply chain management, marketing and sales, or distribution channels.
And, that is when mentors with functional expertise will step in. By drawing on their years of experience, they will identify the areas that are holding back the growth of a business. They will help the start-up solve these challenges and realize its true potential.
In India, Marico Innovation Foundation’s ‘Scale-Up’ Program is one such initiative that is helping entrepreneurs achieve scale. This program provides innovative startups with deep-rooted mentorship that tangibly impacts their business—and all at a nominal fee!
Speaking about it, Harsh Mariwala, Chairman, Marico Limited, and Founder, MIF, said, “There are innovative businesses and start-ups. But, at some, point, they start faltering because they don’t know how to scale up. And, that is where we step in."
