8th Pay Commission is likely to start its work from the month of April in the financial year 2025-26, Expenditure Secretary Manoj Govil told the news portal CNBC-TV18 on Monday, February 10.
According to the new portal's report, the terms of reference (ToR) will require a green light approval from the Union Cabinet. The report also mentioned that Govil said that the government expects no financial impact of the 8th Pay Commission on the financial year 2026, and will ask for views from the Ministry of Department of Personnel & Training and the Ministry of Defence.
The next Union budget for the financial year 2026-27 will also include an allocation for the financial impact of the commission, and the scheme is expected to make an impact on the nation's Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), reported the news portal, citing Govil.

The revision will involve salary hikes, and also adjust the Dearness Allowance (DA) to align with India's inflation rate, Mint reported earlier.
However, the central government has not given any details on the percentage of salary hikes which the central government employees and retirees will receive. The news portal Business Today reported that the minimum basic salary could be hiked to ₹51,480 from ₹18,000.
