25 Oct 2023, 06:08 PM IST Shell cuts low-carbon jobs, scales back hydrogen in overhaul by CEO

Shell will cut 200 jobs in 2024 at its low-carbon solutions division, reported Reuters. “Shell will cut around 15% of the workforce at its low-carbon solutions division and scale back its hydrogen business as part of CEO Wael Sawan's drive to boost profits," said a Reuters report.

Sawan took over as CEO in January. He is trying to revamp Shell's strategy to focus on higher-margin projects.

Shell has also put 130 positions, in addition to the 200, under review as part of a drive to reduce the headcount in the unit, which numbers around 1,300 employees, the company confirmed in response to a query from Reuters.

South Korean consumer electronics and appliances maker Daewoo, known in India as the maker of cars such as the Matiz and Cielo, will now enter the Indian market with a clutch of power and energy storage products, eventually expanding to manufacturing electrical products such as kitchen and home appliances, and even e-bikes. 

Daewoo, which is now a trademark owned by South Korean POSCO group, will license its technologies to an Indian company called Kelwon Electronics & Appliances, which will invest close to 300 crore over the next three year to rebuild the brand in the country, stock products and undertake R&D activities. In its first phase of operations, the company will manufacture lead acid batteries for automobiles and home inverters.

25 Oct 2023, 03:01 PM IST Property registrations in Mumbai jumped 37.4% YoY during Navratri, finds Knight Frank report

Mumbai's property market surged 37.4 percent year-on-year (YoY) in Navratri, recording significant property registrations during the nine-day period from October 15-23, a Knight Frank report found.

The financial capital saw 4,594 property registrations this year, against 3,343 units registered during the same Navratri period last year.

The proof is in the pudding, and the state treasury pulled revenues of 435 crore from property registrations during the festival.

Besides, overall numbers, teh daily average registration rate also jumped to 510 units YoY from 471 last year.

Pakistan's fuel and financial crisis has severely hit the business of one of its airlines. According to a report by DAWN News, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is on the verge of a shutdown as cancelled 300 flights in the past 10 days due to fund issues.

The Pakistani media reported that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has cut fuel supply over unpaid dues. As a result, the PIA cancelled 322 flights, 134 on international routes since 14 October.

As many as 83 percent of consumers — an overwhelming majority — have expressed unhappiness at paying convenience fees for online payment of services, a survey by LocalCircles found.

For the rest, 10 percent said they “happily pay" convenience fees to avoid standing in queues, against 5 percent who prefer to endure the queues. In contrast, only 2 percent of the respondents did not have a clear response.

The survey quizzed 32,000 respondents from 319 districts in India between June 16 and October 19, this year. Read full here

Travellers from tier-I cities are not only spending more on leisure trips but also travelling more compared with their counterparts in tier-II and -III cities, according to a report by global research, consulting, and mergers and acquisitions advisory, Videc. The report, accessed exclusively by Mint, highlighted that homestays still have scope to grow in India.

The majority of survey participants (91%) said they stayed in a hotel, while only 10% of them booked all-inclusive packages, with 7% booking homestays, villas or bungalows. Read details
