CBSE 12th Result 2026 Highlights: Why CBSE Class 12th pass percentage saw 3.19% decline this year

The Prayagraj region reported the highest number of students placed in the compartment category, with 20,841 candidates, accounting for 16.76% of the total students in the region, as per Indian Express.

In contrast, the Bengaluru region recorded the fewest compartment cases, with 1,025 students, representing 4.58% of the total candidates.

The Class 12 examination took place from February 17 to April 10, while results were declared on May 13.

Students who wish to improve their scores, along with those placed in the compartment category in the 2026 main examinations, will need to submit the List of Candidates (LOC) online. The registration process is scheduled to begin on June 2, 2026, as per reports.

The Central Board of Secondary Education said that a detailed notification outlining the application process will be released shortly.

The post-result facilities will begin shortly, and a detailed circular outlining the process will be released soon by CBSE, according to Indian Express, adding these facilities will be available exclusively online.

The circular will reportedly specify the application schedule, including the start and end dates, which students must adhere to strictly.

CBSE also reportedly noted that, since answer sheets were evaluated digitally, there is no need to address totaling errors.

CBSE Class 12th Result 2026 LIVE: In CBSE Class 12 results, students are awarded grades in addition to numerical marks. Those scoring between 91 and 100 marks are placed in the A1 grade, while students scoring below 33 marks receive an E grade, which indicates that they have not passed the subject.

CBSE Class 12th Result 2026 LIVE:Last year, the CBSE clarified that students seeking verification or re-evaluation after the declaration of Class 12 results must first obtain photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets before applying for scrutiny of marks.

CBSE Class 12th Result 2026 LIVE: Students who wish to improve their scores, as well as those placed in the compartment category, will be able to appear for the supplementary examination on July 15, 2026, as per ANI. The application process through the List of Candidates (LOC) will begin on June 2, 2026.

Students studying in Central Board of Secondary Education-affiliated schools abroad can also check their results through DigiLocker Results Portal. To access their marksheets, students should visit the portal and then create a support ticket on NAD Support Portal by selecting the category “CBSE International Student 2026.”

CBSE Class 12th Result 2026 LIVE: The CBSE Class 12 board exam results were announced on Wednesday, with a senior official confirming that more than 85 per cent of students passed this year.

However, the overall pass percentage declined by more than three percentage points compared to the previous year. Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj stated that over 94,000 students scored above 90 per cent marks, while more than 17,000 candidates achieved scores exceeding 95 per cent.

According to Hindustan Times, Praneet Mungali, a dedicated educationist and Trustee at the Sanskriti Group of Schools, Pune on CBSE 12th result, stated, “The OSM adoption has introduced more rigour in the process of evaluation.This has reduced the human error and is probably the reason for the change in the pass ratio."

“However to come up with a definitive conclusion we would need to study the trend for at least the next few years and compare them with the average pass ratios for a few years before the introduction of the OSM. This will allow us to make a firm conclusion about the real pattern. It is important to highlight at this juncture that the OSM introduction is the right way forwar,” Praneet added.
