The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has announced the postponement of the second Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), originally scheduled between June 26 and 28, 2024. This decision comes due to a scheduling conflict with the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exams for headmaster recruitment, set for June 28 and 29. The new date for the TET will be announced within the next two days, as per ANI.

Passing the TET is a crucial step for teachers in Bihar, as it grants them the status of state employees. The test is aimed at candidates seeking positions in primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools.

Backdrop of examination paper leaks

The postponement coincides with heightened scrutiny of exam security following recent incidents of paper leaks. The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) was canceled after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan revealed on June 20 that the exam's question paper had been leaked on the darknet. The darknet is a concealed part of the internet inaccessible to standard search engines, where users often remain anonymous and conduct transactions using cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

In related news, the Supreme Court on June 21, 2024, refused to delay the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET-UG) counseling process, scheduled to begin on July 6. Despite ongoing controversies, including allegations of paper leaks, the court emphasized that the counseling process must proceed as planned.

He confirmed that the NEET-UG 2024 will not be canceled at this time and announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the issues. Emphasizing the government's dedication to transparency, he stated, "We will not compromise on the transparency of the examination."
