New Delhi: Keeping in mind the changing technology, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday said that it is introducing Design Thinking and Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses for students of the class 11 from the coming academic year.

The school board said the move will help students keep pace with the global developments and requirements at workplace. Besides it will make the students creative and innovative. The board also said that it is also introducing another course called 'Physical Activity Trainer' to motivate students to stay fit.

Design thinking and AI are top skills that industries are now looking for, according to a 2019 survey by ed-tech firm Great Learning. The survey that collected data from 307 companies had underlined that organizations are now looking for new age skills like AI, Machine Learning and Design Thinking to drive future performance and optimize output.

To be sure, these courses are not core subjects but part of the vocational course work and schools are free to choose one or more such skill courses. CBSE is already offering 17 skill subjects at secondary level and 37 skill Subjects at Senior Secondary level to upgrade the skills and proficiency of its students.

The school board feels that the introduction of such subjects is in sync with what the draft new education policy has suggested. The draft policy had stated to make education broad-based, contemporary and demand driven.
