
The authorities conducting the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) exam on Sunday announced the cancellation of Group II A main examination. One of the most sought-after state level exam was scheduled for February 8 for a total of 595 vacancies in assistant, revenue inspector, and other posts.
Talking about this recruitment drive, official familiar with the matter informed The Times of India that about 600 candidates were wrongly allocated exam centres because of a software glitch. Nearly 1,000 candidates turned up at an exam centre on the test day that had arrangements for only 300 candidates. This implies that the authorities misallocated exam centres for about 600 candidates.
As per the report, over 9,000 candidates were scheduled to appear for the mains exam.
“The revised exam dates will be announced in two weeks. Due to this error, the Group II Tamil eligibility test scheduled for the afternoon has also been postponed,” TOI quoted TNPSC Controller of Examinations A Shanmuga Sundaram as saying.
The official notification regarding this recruitment drive was first released on 15 July 2025. Online registration window opened on the same day and closed nearly after a month on 13 August 2025. TNPSC Group 2 preliminary exam was held on 28 September and its results were declared on 22 December.
The official notice dated 30 December 2025 states, "The Commission had invited applications for appointment by direct recruitment through Combined Civil Services Examination (Group II/IIA Services) vide., Notification No. 11/2025, dated: 15.07.2025 for which the Preliminary Examination was held on 28.09.2025 FN and the results were published on 22.12.2025. The Main Written Examination is scheduled to be held on 08.02.2026 FN for Group IIA Posts and 08.02.2026 AN for Tamil Eligibility Test and on 22.02.2026 FN for Group II Posts respectively."

Previously, the authorities changed the test mode from Computer-Based Test (CBT) to Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) method for Group IIA, Main Examination Paper-II (General Studies, General Intelligence and Reasoning due to administrative reasons. The admit card for this exam was released on 29 January 2026. Essential credentials needed to download the admit card included application number and date of birth.
