With Jharkhand loss, BJP footprint shrinks to half from 2017 peak

  • BJP now governs mere 35% of the country's landmass in comparison to over 71% during its peak in 2017
  • The percentage of population being governed by the BJP in the states, either on its own or with its allies, now stands at around 43% from over 69% two years back

Counting of votes for 81 Jharkhand Assembly seats today

  • The 81 Assembly seats in the state went to polls in five phases from 30 Nov to 20 Dec
  • According to EC, the approximate voter turnout for all the constituencies across the five phases was 65.17% as compared to 66.53% recorded in the 2014 elections

Voting in Maharashtra, Haryana assembly elections on Monday

  • Bypolls will also be held to 51 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 18 states
