Bihar Assembly Election 2025 Highlights: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, while addressing her first election rally in Begusarai for the Bihar polls, accused the NDA governments at the Centre and in the state of engaging in divisive politics and promoting "fake nationalism" to secure votes, as reported by PTI.
She further asserted that Bihar does not truly have a "double-engine government," as all decisions are dictated from Delhi.
Bihar will vote to elect a new state government in two phases during the polling for the 243-member assembly this month. The first phase is scheduled for 6 November, and the second and final phase is scheduled for 11 November. The votes will be counted on 14 November.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday urged voters to give the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) another chance to take Bihar further on the road to development. Kumar, who has been chief minister for about twenty years, said the word ‘Bihari’ is no longer an insult but a matter of honour.
The JD-U is contesting elections as a partner of the NDA with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). The incumbent alliance is challenged by the opposition Mahagathbandhan, comprising the RJD and the Congress, with Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate.
There are a total of 7.42 crore voters in Bihar, comprising 3.92 crore males and 3.5 crore females. There are 14 lakh first-time voters and 4 lakh senior citizen voters. At least 14,000 voters in the state are aged above 100 years. A total of 90,712 polling stations are being set up in Bihar, he said.
The parties began campaigning earlier, but the momentum picked up after the Chhath festival earlier this week, with leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and the opposition’s CM candidate, Tejashwi Yadav, addressing rallies.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi will also address rallies in Bihar today.
The ruling NDA is seeking re-election, banking on the 20-year rule of Nitish Kumar in the state and the 11-year rule of the PM Modi government at the Centre. The opposition Mahagathbandhan is seeking votes on anti-incumbency, misgovernance and job promises.
The NDA released its manifesto ‘Sankalp Patra’ for the Bihar election on Friday, days after rival Mahagathbandhan released its ‘Bihar Ka Tejashwi Pran.’ Players like Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj and Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM are also in the fray.

Bihar Assembly Election 2025 LIVE: ‘Don’t get fooled by promises of ‘double engine’ govt, says Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Bengusarai
“Nitish Kumar is aware that he will not become the Chief Minister this time, which is why he is not making any commitments to the public. The new Chief Minister will be decided after the election. Nitish Kumar was insulted by the BJP during yesterday’s press conference. The Mahagathbandhan is set to form the government in Bihar this time,” former Rajasthan CM and veteran Congress leader Ashok Gehlot told ANI.
“The NDA government led by Prime Minister Modi at the Centre and by Nitish Kumar in Bihar has fulfilled every promise it made…,” said Union minister Nityanand Rai.
“Those people broke whatever promises they made. When the leaders of that Mahagathbandhan, which spread 15 years of jungle raj, murder, dacoity, kidnapping, rape, and caste frenzy, question the NDA's resolution document, the public asks them what promise they fulfilled?,” he said.
“But today, more than 30 crore people across the country and more than 3 crore in Bihar have been lifted out of poverty... Bihar has already caught the pace of development, and that Bihar will get an even faster pace of development,” the Union minister added.
“You know, don't you, that yesterday in Arrah, father-son Pramod Kushwaha and Priyanshu Kushwaha were shot dead by power-protected criminals. In your speech, please be sure to mention the jungle rule. Your candidates are carrying out plenty of bloodshed,” Tejashwi Yadav, the Mahagathbandhan's CM face, said on X.
“A man whose election from Parbatta in 2000 was annulled by the Supreme Court was declared ineligible and had to resign from his ministerial post. The Supreme Court found that he had lied about his age, as he was not 25 when he gave his affidavit... His 1981 affidavit (presented in 2000) indicated he should currently be 44 years old. However, he has declared himself to be 56 years old in his most recent affidavit, with a date of birth listed as 1968... By some magic or blessing, he can alter his age whenever he wishes,” Congress leader Supriya Shrinate told news agency ANI.
Union Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J P Nadda will address several rallies in poll-bound Bihar today.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is also slated to visit the poll-bound state today to participate in two public meetings for the first time after the announcement of elections last month.
“The work of the Mahagathbandhan has been reduced to nothing more than personal attacks on us... He [Tejashwi Yadav] says that he will give government jobs to every family. He should at least calculate how he will do it... When asked how it will happen, he says 'it will happen,' but it doesn't work this way... We have prepared a complete roadmap. They keep making lakhs of allegations and counter-allegations, but the reality is that the people of Bihar have made up their mind to bring the NDA again,” Union Minister Chirag Paswan told ANI.
