Channapatna Constituency Result Live: Janata Dal Secular's HD Kumaraswamy claimed victory from the Channapatna constituency - another key constituencies of the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023. Located in Karnataka state’s Ramanagara district, Channapatna comes under Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha constituency, along with eight assembly seats.
The seat had been dominated by CP Yogeshwara, when he first fought the polls in 1999 Independent candidate. He won the seat as a Congress candidate in the 2004 and 2008 assembly elections.
Following he joined BJP during the infamous 'Operation Lotus' in 2008, he lost the by-election in 2009 against JD (S) candidate Ashwath M.C. He later won the seat in the 2011 bypoll as a BJP candidate.
In 2013, Yogeshwara contested on a Samajwadi Party (SP) ticket and won against Kumaraswamy’s wife Anita Kumaraswamy.
However, he was defeated by former state Chief Minister Kumaraswamy in 2018 assembly elections by a margin of over 20,000 votes.

Janata Dal Secular leader HD Kumaraswamy has claimed victory in the Channapatna constituency and defeated BJP's CP Yogeshwara by a margin of more than 15,000 votes and is all set to repeat his tenure, according to ECI data.
Congress wins Karnataka polls with absolute majority, crossing the leading mark of 113, and is still ahead on 22 more seats.
"In the next 2-3 hours, it will become clear. Exit polls show that the two national parties will score in a big way. The polls have given 30-32 seats to JD(S). I am a small party, there is no demand for me...I am hoping for a good development. Let's wait for the results, according to the exit polls there would be no need for options, he said," said HD Kumaraswamy.

Congress wins 103 seats and leads on 33 more as the counting continues. BJP wins 50 and leads on 14 others as counting continues.
Congress has secured 43.11% of the total vote share so far.
JD(S)'s HD Kumawaswamy is currently leading by a margin of 13,601 votes against BJP's CP Yogeshwara, according to ECI data.

Synchronising with the exit polls, early trends are showing Congress leading ahead of BJP in Karnataka. The grand old party is leading on 112 seats and is close to cross the majority mark of 113 in early trends.
Channapatna constituency recorded around 47% of voter turnout in 2018. It comes under Bangalore rural region and includes 31 wards of the city. Its voter population stands at 2,17,606.
In Karnataka assembly elections 2013, CP Yogeshwara of SP won the elections by defeating JDS lleader Anitha Kumaraswamy by a margin of 6464 votes. In 2009, Ashwath. M.C. led the seat. Before Ashwath, C. P. Yogeeshwara was led the seat since 1999.
In 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections, JDS party leader, HD Kumaraswamy, won the seat by defeating BJP's CP Yogeeshwara with a margin of 21530 votes.
The general assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 17.43 percent and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 0.46 percent> In terms of literacy, the estimated literacy level of the district in which the constituency falls is 69.22 per cent.
According to Census of India, 2011, the Channapatna City Municipal Council has a population of 71,942. Out of which 36,098 are males while 35,844 are females.
In the 2018, Kumaraswamy of JD(S) had won the election and earned a vote share of 46.55 per cent. He defeated BJP's C P Yogeeshwara and Congress' HM Revanna.
This time, Channapatna Assembly constituency is witnessing a close fight between HD Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (Secular) and Bharatiya Janata Party leader CP Yogeshwara. Apart from this, Gangadhar S is contesting from the Indian National Congress (INC).
In 2023, the voter turnout was 72.3 per cent which is the highest ever till date.
