The BJP swept the polls, with 46.27 vote share, to regain power in Chhattisgarh on Sunday. The Congress's vote share was around 42 per cent.
The polling for the Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections was held in two phases on 7 November and 17 November with candidates from Congress, BJP, BSP, and others in the fray. The exit polls released by various agencies on Thursday had pointed towards a close fight between the ruling Congress and the BJP, with a clear edge to the Congress. However, the Congress faced a defeat in the state.

No, Bhupesh Baghel won't retain the chief minister's post in Chhattisgarh as his party, the Congress, lost to the BJP in a major setback. He has already tendered his resignation to the Governor of the state. In 2018, Bhupesh Baghel led Congress to a thumping victory in the state. During his tenure, Bhupesh Baghel launched some effective development schemes like Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana, Sanchar Kranti Yojana, Narva, Garwa, Ghurwa, Bari, Nyay Apke Dwar, etc.

BJP candidate Asha Ram Netam defeated Congress leader Shankar Dhruwa in Kanker assembly constituency of Chhattisgarh by only 16 votes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Sunday, "The election results of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh show that the people of India have faith only in the politics of good governance and development, their faith is in BJP. I heartily thank the family members of all these states, especially the mothers, sisters, daughters and our young voters, for showering their love, trust and blessings on the BJP..."
The BJP is now leading on 56 seats, while the Congress leads on 32 seats. Earlier, the BJP was leading on 53 seats and the Congress on 34.

Nine ministers, including Tamrdhwaj Sahu (Durg Rural constituency), Ravindra Choubey (Saja) and Kawasi Lakhma (Konta), state Assembly Speaker Charan Das Mahant (Sakti) and state unit chief and MP Deepak Baij (Chitrakot), were among the other prominent Congress candidates.
The BJP was earlier leading on 55 seats, while the Congress was leading on 33 seats. Not the BJP's tally has dropped to 53 seats and the Congress has gains on two more seats.
The Congress now leads on a total of 34 seats. There are a total of 90 assembly seats in Chhattigarh. A party needs to win 46 seats to form government in the state.
CM Bhupesh Baghel is leading with nearly 59,000 votes and 10,000 vote margin in the Patan assembly constituency. he is ahead of his nephew and BJP candidate Vijay Baghel, who has so far won 48,962 votes. Check LIVE updates here
Earlier, the EC trends showed that the BJP was leading on 55 seats. Now, the saffron party is leading on 54 seats, while the Congress leads on 33 seats.
A BSP candidate is leading in the Bilaigarh assembly constituency. BSP leader Shyam Tandan is leading by 4,502 vote margin, while Congress candidate Kavita Pran Lahrey trails.
Chhattisgarh BJP President Arun Sao says, "The misgovernance of Congress is about to end. The lotus will bloom. Chhattisgarh will move forward on the path of development. Chhattisgarh will get the guarantee of PM Modi. The trends will be converted into reality and we will get more seats than the trends...Those who have looted the state will not be spared. The (CM) will be decided by the MLAs and the central leadership of the party. Very soon we will form the government in the state."

Five former ministers who lost the 2018 Chhattisgarh assembly elections and were re-nominated by the BJP for the polls this time were leading in their respective seats as vote counting was underway on Sunday, according to the Election Commission data.
Bhaiyyalal Rajwade (Baikunthpur), Amar Agrawal (Bilaspur), Rajesh Munat (Raipur City West), Kedar Kashyap (Narayanpur) and Dayaldas Baghel (Nawagarh) were ministers in the previous BJP government in the state. (PTI)

BJP leading in 53 seats in Madhya Pradesh, Congress ahead in 34 as per trends: Election Commission.
With the trends giving the BJP a lead in three states in the assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address party workers here on Sunday evening, party sources told PTI.
They said Modi is likely to address BJP workers at the party headquarters in the national capital.
According to trends issued by the Election Commission, the BJP was leading in 155 of the 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh and in 54 of the 90 seats in Chhattisgarh. (PTI)
