Delhi assembly election: Kejriwal files nomination for Delhi polls on final day

  • On Monday, the Delhi CM could not file his nomination papers due to a delay following a roadshow earlier in the day
  • The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress also released their final lists and filed nominations for the 8 February poll

The stage is now set for the Delhi election with Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal finally filing his nomination on Tuesday, the last date to submit papers for the election to the 70-member assembly.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress also released their final lists and filed nominations for the 8 February poll.

A large number of candidates assembled at Jamnagar House in central Delhi to file their nominations.

Consequently, Kejriwal, who was accompanied by his parents, had to wait for over six hours before he could submit his papers.

On Monday, the Delhi CM could not file his nomination papers due to a delay following a roadshow earlier in the day.

The single-phase polling in Delhi will be held on 8 February and results will be announced on 11 February.

It will be a three-way fight between AAP, the National Democratic Alliance comprising the BJP, Janata Dal (United), or JD(U), and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), and the Congress-Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) combine.

“For the first time, the LJP, JD(U) and RJD are contesting in alliance in Delhi. Their main aim is to see how they can make Kejriwal lose, but my main aim is to see how corruption can be fought and Delhi can move forward," Kejriwal said before submitting his nomination papers.
