The high-voltage campaigning for the Karnataka Assembly election 2023 ended yesterday and the voting in the southern state will be held tomorrow i.e. on 10 May. Since the past few days, the poll-bound state witnessed star campaigners from all three major political parties - BJP, Congress and JD(S) have been holding mega rallies and road shows in a bid to woo the voters.
In view of the Assembly election, commuters might see disruption in bus services as thousands of Karnataka State Road Transit Corporation (KSRTC) and the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will be used for election duties on 9 and 10 May. Reports have stated that KSRTC will be deploying 45 percent and BMTC will be deploying 27 percent of their fleet for election duties for two days. Of the 8,100 fleet of KSRTC buses, nearly 3700 would be used to transport officials for poll duties and 1,868 BMTC buses will be used. However, no interrupted services will be seen on Volvo and other premium busses.

Meanwhile, the state will also observe dry days till tomorrow due to the election. The dry day began on Monday at 5 pm. Liquor shops and restaurants serving alcohol will remain shut till midnight on 10 May, the voting day. And then again on 13 May, the counting day. In view of this, all pubs, bars and liquor sales outlets will also remain shut in Bengaluru. Also some restaurants will also remain shut as they cannot serve alcohol to customers during the dry days, India Today has reported.

Meanwhile, the EC in its advisory to political parties also stated no party or candidate should publish any advertisement in the print media on poll day and one day prior without clearance from the media certification and monitoring committee.
"No political party or candidate or any other organisation or person shall publish any advertisement in the print media on poll day and one day prior to poll day unless the contents of political advertisement are got pre-certified by them from the MCMC at the state/district level, as the case may be," the advisory stated. Forty-eight hours before the end of polling are considered the silence period.
