The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) enjoyed significant support in the state, the four-cornered contest also saw the BJP trying to make inroads in the state. The presence of the Congress has faded over the years but some of the exit polls have given an edge to the grand-old party.
However, people of Mizoram rested their faith in the youngest political party in the northeastern state and voted Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) to power.
A total of 174 candidates contested in the Mizoram Assembly election. Of the 174, ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and Congress had contested all 40 seats each while BJP contested on 23 constituencies.
Nearly 4000 personnel were involved in the counting of votes of Mizoram assembly polls on December 3, said Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer Madhup Vyas. The counting of votes were held at 13 counting centres across the state.
The Election Commission of India on Monday, 4 December conducted the vote counting for the Mizoram Assembly Elections 2023. In some alteration in political scenario, the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) bagged victory in 27 seats, usurping the incumbent Zoramthanga-led Mizo National Front (MNF).
Further Mizo National Front won 10 seats and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) won 2.
Congress won one seat in the Mizoram Assembly Elections.
ZPM leader Lalduhoma, a former IPS officer who also guarded former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is set to become the new Chief Minister of Mizoram.

ZPM working president K Sapdanga said the meeting will be held on Tuesday and party leader Lalduhoma, who was in Serchhip, was travelling to Aizawl on Monday to meet the newly elected MLAs.
ZPM, the opposition party, swept the polls, winning 27 of the 40 seats, while the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, bagged 10 seats and was leading in one.
Would-be Chief Minister of Mizoram, ZPM leader Lalduhoma, shared an update with Hindustan times on the swearing-in ceremony of the news government. “We are likely to stake claim to form the government on Wednesday and the swearing-in can be expected either on Thursday or Friday" the ZPM leader said.
Lalduhoma, 74, who is set to become the next chief minister, told Hindustan Times about the priorities of his government.
They are
-Procure ginger, turmeric, chili, and broomsticks at a minimum pre-determined price to support farmers
-Constitute an expert committee and put fiscal reforms in place
-Adopt a policy of zero tolerance for corruption
-Grant permission to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) to act on corruption
While some news media houses had predicted a clean sweep by the ZPM, majority had predicted a hung assembly, thereby failing to predict the outcome that the Mizoram Assembly election Results have shown on 4 December.
In the last assembly elections, held in 2018, the MNF had won 26 seats and the ZPM secured eight seats.
The MNF, ZPM and Congress contested 40 seats each, while the BJP fielded candidates in 23 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which contested the assembly polls here for the first time, fought in four seats. Also, there were 17 Independent candidates.
The MNF won in Hachhek, Mamik, Tuirial, Serlui, Tuivawl, East Tuipui, West Tuipui, Thorang and Tuichawng seats and was leading in one.
Counting of votes, which began at 8 am, was being held in 13 centres. Postal ballots were counted first, and from 8.30 am, the counting for votes polled in the EVMs began.
In some of the seats that have a fewer number of voters, only two rounds of counting will be held, but in most of the constituencies, five rounds will be counted.
More than 4,000 personnel are involved in the counting process. In all, there are 399 tables for the EVMs and 56 for the counting of postal ballots.
ZPM emerged winners in Kolasib, Chalfilh, Tawi, Aizawl North-I, Aizawl North-II, Aizawl North-III, Aizawl East I, Aizawl East II, Aizawl West-I, Aizawl West-II, Aizawl West-III, Aizawl South-I, Aizawl South-II, Aizawl South-III, Lengteng, Tuichang, Champhai North, Champai South, Tuikum, Hrangturzo, South Tuipui, Lunglei North, Lunglei East, Lunglei West, Lunglei South, Lawngtlai East and Serchhip seats.

Lalduhoma, the Chief Ministerial candidate of the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), has secured a clear victory in the Serchhip Assembly constituency of Mizoram as the Election Commission of India declared results for 25 seats of the polls that were held in the state on November 7.
Lalduhoma has registered a decisive win in the Serchhip constituency, defeating Mizo National Front candidate J Malsawmzuala Vanchhawng by 2982 votes, data from the Election Commission of India showed.

The BJP won the Palak and the Saiha Assembly constituency in Mizoram on Monday, according to the Election Commission.
BJP candidate K Hrahmo won the Palak Assembly constituency defeating his MNF rival K T Rokhaw by 1,241 votes, the EC said.
Hrahmo got 6,064 votes while Rokhaw secured 4,823 votes. Indian National Congress candidate I P Junior received 3,729 votes while Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) nominee K Robinson got 1,378 votes.
BJP candidate K Beichhua won the Saiha Assembly seat defeating his MNF rival H C Lalmalsawma Zasai by 616 votes.
Beichua received 6,740 votes while Zasai got 6,124 votes. N Chakhai of the Indian National Congress secured 3,607 votes while ZPM candidate K H Beithie got 2,219 votes.
Notably, BJP had won only one Assembly seat in 2018 elections in Mizoram
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga is likely to meet Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Monday evening to tender his resignation following his party's debacle in the assembly polls, officials said.
"The CM will meet the governor around 4 pm. He is likely to offer his resignation," an official at the Chief Minister's Office said.
Congress fails to secure victory in any constituency, according to EC.

Congress leader C.Ngunlianchunga is leading in Lawngtlai West, according to the EC.

Mizoram Rural Development Minister and MNF candidate Laruatkima lost to ZPM nominee Lalnghinglova Hmar in the Aizawl West II Assembly constituency, according to the Election Commission.
Hmar of Zoram People's Movement secured 10,398, while Lalruatkima of Mizo National Front got 5,579 and Ngurdingliana of Indian National Congress received 1,528 votes, the EC said. (PTI)

Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has secured its first victory in Tuichang, triumphing over the incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF) MLA, according to the Election Commission of India.
As per the ECI, W Chhuanawma, the ZPM candidate from Tuichang assembly constituency registered victory after defeating MNF candidate Tawnluia.

Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister and MNF candidate Tawnluia lost to ZPM candidate in the Tuichang Assembly seat, according to the Election Commission.
Tawluia of Mizo National Front (MNF) received 6,079 votes while the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) candidate W Chhuanawma got 6,988.
Congress candidate C Lalhriatuia received 1,674 votes while the Independent candidate Lalhmunsiami got only 67 votes, the EC said.
