PremiumMP Election Results 2023 Highlights: The BJP cruised to a two-thirds majority in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Sunday, sparking celebrations as several locations acorss the country. Meanwhile the Congress remains relegated to the Opposition ranks with 66 seats.
The counting of votes was started across Madhya Pradesh amid tight security arrangements on Sunday morning. Exit polls had previously indicated that the state would see a tough contest between the BJP and Congress with many projections released on Thursday evening giving the saffron party a slight lead.
Elections for the 230-seat Madhya Pradesh Assembly were held on November 17 and saw a 77.82% voter turnout.

The BJP secured a landslide victory against the Congress as votes were counted for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections on Sunday. The saffron party will remain at the helm of affairs with a two-thirds majority and 163 seats in the House. The Congress secured a meagre 66 seats while the Bharat Adivasi Party opened its tally for the first time in MP by winning the Sailana seat.
Celebrations erupted outside the state BJP office — and across the country — as the party crossed the majority mark comfortably on Sunday afternoon. Many party leaders attributed the electoral success to PM Narendra Modi, who addressed as many as 14 poll rallies in the state.

“It is a great victory this time. Some people said there is anti-incumbency and some said 'Kaante Ki Takkar Hai. Na Kaanta Mila Na Takkar'…" said CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The AAP on Sunday asserted that the assembly election results are not reflective of the nation's mood for next year's Lok Sabha polls even as it congratulated the BJP on its imminent victories in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
The party also asserted that a meeting of the opposition INDIA bloc on December 6 will decide the future course of action.
“We did not expect this kind of results in 3 states. We had confidence that today's businessmen, farmers and youth are upset with the inflation created by BJP...we had faith in the work that was done by Kamal Nath in 15 months...we did put forward our words but maybe it did not reach voters properly...we need to retrospect this..." said Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Jaivardhan Singh — the son of Digvijaya Singh.
Data from the Election Commission at 7 pm indicates that the BJP candidates have already been declared the winner from 102 seats. Counting remains underway with the saffron party leading in another 62 seats. Meanwhile the Congress is poised to secure 65 seats.
“It’s only and only Modi ji in the hearts of the people. Today’s election results have proved that days of appeasement and caste politics are over. New India votes on politics of performance," Shah said in a post on X.
“I salute the people of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan for this immense support," the home minister said, adding “many congratulations to prime minister Shri Narendra Modi on this grand victory of BJP"
“We accept the decision of Madhya Pradesh voters in this contest of democracy. We, being the opposition party, will stick to our duty. I congratulate BJP and hope that they will live up to the people’s support they got," said Kamal Nath.
The former chief minister said he has always expressed his faith in voters of Madhya Pradesh and was “saying it even today".
“I hope that the BJP won’t betray the trust of the people," he said.
Union Minister Faggan Singh Kulaste lost from Niwas (ST) seat in Madhya Pradesh's Mandla district to the Congress' Chainsingh Warkade by a margin of 9,723 votes. He was among the three Union ministers the Bharatiya Janata Party had fielded in the Assembly polls held on November 17. The lawmaker has previously contested from Niwas three times and won the seat in 1990.
“Modi is in the minds of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh; this is clear. Modi is there in the mind of the entire country; this is also clear and that's why the BJP has got votes for development," Pragya Singh Thakur told ANI.
“We will analyse the loopholes and why we were not able to make the voters understand our point. We will hold discussions will all, be it a winning or losing candidate..." said State Congress president Kamal Nath.
The senior BJP leader holds a 45798 vote lead after 16 rounds of counting. Congress candidate Sanjay Shukla is trailing with 81391 votes.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan won from the Budhni constituency by a margin of 1,04,974 votes. The BJP leader garnered 1,64,951 votes while trailing candidate Vikram Mastal secured 59,977 votes.
A clash broke out between BJP and Congress workers in Shajapur on Sunday afternoon with police resorting to use of tear gas and lathi charging the mob. According to reports, violence erupted after the defeat of Congress candidate Hukum Singh Karada. His supporters had alleged foul play and resorted to stone pelting after the results emerged.
Congress MLA Babu Jandel defeats his BJP rival Durgalal Vijay from Sheopur seat in MP by 11,130 votes.
Election Commission data after 21 rounds of counting indicated that the BJP leader currently holds a 1,02,848 vote lead over his nearest rival — Congress candidate Vikram Mastal. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has so far secured 1,61,604 votes.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has dubbed the party's performance in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan assembly polls 'disappointing'. He added that the party would overcome temporary setbacks and ‘prepare fully for Lok Sabha polls along with INDIA partners’.
“No anti-incumbency wave was there in Madhya Pradesh. There is a pro-incumbency wave in Madhya Pradesh. I thank the people of MP and promise everyone that we will fulfil our guarantees," he said.
"For the grand victory in Madhya Pradesh, I would like to thank the people of the state. I thank the Janata Janardhan for their love and support. Bharatiya Janata Party's win belongs to the karyakartas who worked hard day and night. I also congratulate CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan and his government. I congratulate all karyakartas for this win," Union Minister Tomar said.
BJP MP and candidate from Vidhyadhar Nagar, Diya Kumari won by a margin of 71,368 votes, garnering a total of 1,58,516 votes.
BJP workers began celebrating at the party headquarters in Delhi and Jaipur as the party secured clear leads in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. Others took to social media platforms to express their opinions.
“This is the verdict in favour of the pro-people govt...People have accepted that double-engine govt is the need of the hour. This is a verdict against the family-run political parties including the Congress..." said Union Minister V Muraleedharan.
"I was working in Malwa-Nimar for the past one year, and the target was to win as many seats as possible. As you can see, Malwa-Nimar has given maximum number of seats to BJP," he said.
BJP Ratlam City candidate Chetanya Kasyap ‘Bhaiyyaji’ wins by 60708 votes.
Bharat Adivasi Party candidate Kamleshwar Dodiyar won the Sailana seat by a margin of 4618 votes. This is the first time that the Bharat Adivasi Party, headquartered in Rajasthan, has registered a victory in any election in Madhya Pradesh.
Several MPs who contested the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections are currently headed for victory. However this also means that they will have to quit one of the seats in the next 14 days – or else they stand to lose their Parliament membership.
"If they don't, on expiry of 14 days, they will lose their membership of Parliament. However, they can continue as member of the state legislative assembly," Constitution expert and former Lok Sabha secretary general P D T Achari told PTI.
The BJP fielded 21 MPs, including Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel and Faggan Singh Kulaste, in the assembly polls -- seven each in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, four in Chhattisgarh and three in Telangana.
BJP is heading for a landslide victory in Madhya Pradesh.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan maintains a massive lead and has garnered 119010 votes after 15 rounds of counting. Meanwhile Kailash Vijayvargiya has secured 81951 votes thus far.
The BJP leader won by a margin of 44,805 votes.
Data from the Election Comission at 2:55 pm indicates that Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar is leading by 5357 votes against BSP candidate Balveer Singh Dandotiya.

"In the three states, it is more of a failure of the Congress than a success story of the BJP," TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said in a social media message.
He however claimed that the results of elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh – a crucial electoral exercise ahead of Lok Sabha polls just months away – will not have any impact on the general elections.
Election Commission data at 2:30 pm indicates a BJP lead in 162 seats. Meanwhile the Congress is leading in 66 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party and the Bharat Adivasi Party are both leading on one seat each.
Congress leader Jaivardhan Singh – the son of veteran politician Digvijaya Singh – has taken a lead in Raghogarh. Data from the election commission at 2:20 pm indicates a 3619 vote lead against BJP candidate Heerendra Singh Bunty Peelaghata.
“I dedicate this win to our Ladli Behnas and PM Modi. We will take Madhya Pradesh forward...," Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan told party workers.
BJP supporters gathered outside CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan's residence in Bhopal on the counting day. The supporters chanted slogans for Chouhan's 5th victory in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls.
