Telangana Election Results 2023 Highlights: KCR misses hat-trick as Congress crosses halfway mark in state

The results for the elections to 119-member Telangana assembly have been declared. The Congress emerged as the winner crossing the halfway mark, winning 64 seats in the state. BRS won 39 seats, followed by the BJP that won 8 and AIMIM that won 7. CPI won 1 seat.

Candidates of the Janasena party led by actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan lost deposit in all the eight constituencies where they contested in the Assembly elections in Telangana. The party put up a decent fight only in the Kukatpalle segment, where it finished third, while in other seats it lost badly. The eight seats it contested were: Kukatpalle, Khammam, Kothagudum, Wrya, Aswaraopeta, Kodad, Nagarkurnool and Tandur. The Janasena contested the Assembly polls in an alliance with its NDA ally - the BJP. The actor failed to work his magic on the Telangana voters and now needs to relook at his seat distribution strategy with TDP in Andhra Pradesh for the Assembly elections. (PTI)

“BJP did well in Telangana, we got a good percentage of vote...we got 8 seats this time. In Kamareddy, BJP candidate Venkata Ramana Reddy did very well, he defeated KCR and Revanth Reddy,” G Kishan Reddy to ANI.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday resigned from his post following his party’s defeat in the Legislative Assembly election, and Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan accepted it.

The Governor has asked Rao to continue in office till the formation of the new government.

Rao's son and BRS working president K T Rama Rao told reporters here that his father had sent his resignation to the Governor following BRS' defeat in the assembly poll. (PTI)

T Harish Rao of BRS won Siddipet constituency in Telangana for the third time with 1,05,514 votes and by a margin of 82,308 votes, defeating Congress' Pujala Hari Krishna who secured 20,206 votes and BJP's Dudi Srikanth Reddy who secured 23,201 votes.

BRS Working President Rama Rao informed that Telangana CM Chandrashekar Rao has sent his resignation to the Governor. The state is staring at a change in power as the Congress party surges ahead with a lead in 63 of the total 119 seats. Meanwhile, K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS, which has been in power since the formation of the state in 2014, is trailing with a lead in 40 seats. (PTI)

The Telangana police on Sunday said it has been asked by the state Congress chief A Revanth Reddy to make security arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony on December 4 or 9.

Reddy, whose party was enjoying a comfortable lead to touch the simple majority mark of 60 seats, on Sunday asked state Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar to make security arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony.

Reddy called and discussed with DGP, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) and ADG CID about the preparation for the swearing-in ceremony, which is likely to be held either on Monday or on December 9, a release from Telangana Police said. (PTI)

Kalvantula Taraka Rama Rao (K.T.R) emerged as winner in the Sircilla seat by 29,687 votes. Meanwhile, the state poll results come as a disappintment for BRS as Congress is leading in 63 seats. K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS, that was eyeing a third term in the state, was in power since the formation of the state in 2014. BRS is leading in 39 seats.
