The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has managed to win four out of the five states – Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur – that went to poll in February and March, while a relatively newer Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has snatched Punjab.
In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has crossed the 270 mark in the latest trends. The BJP has also extended its lead in Uttarakhand with the Congress trailing in the hill state. The saffron party won 20 seats in Goa while the Congress has won 11 seats. In Manipur too it emerged as the single-largest party, bagging 32 of the total 60 seats.
The AAP scored a spectacular victory in Punjab, winning 92 seats.
A total of 690 assembly constituencies voted in the five states between 10 February and 7 March. The counting of votes for the seats commenced at 8 am on Thursday.

The confirmed its return to power in Uttarakhand, with the party bagging 47 seats in the 70-member assembly. It is followed by Congress which won 18 seats and is leading in one, independent candidates won two and Bahujan Samaj Party got one.
As Goa BJP is all set to form the government in the state, Union minister G Kishan Reddy on Thursday said that the chief minister candidate would be decided only after BJP parliamentary committee's meeting.
Nearly eight lakh voters, who exercised their franchise in the five states which went to assembly polls, used the 'none of the above' or NOTA option, according to data available on the EC website.
BJP emerged as the single-largest party, winning 32 seats, followed by National People's Party (seven), Janata Dal (United) (six), Congress and Naga Peoples Front got five each, independent candidates got three seats and Kuki People’s Alliance got two.
The BJP has so far won 45 Assembly seats in Uttarakhand and leads in two more, while the Congress has emerged victorious in 17 seats and leads in two more. The BSP has one a seat and leads in one more, while Independent candidates have bagged two seats.
In Ponda Assembly Constituency, a recount of votes was asked by the MGP candidate. Application for a recount from Valanka Alemao and Mohammad from Navelim constituency, and application of D’silva Savio from Velim was rejected as the applications were not as per ECI guidelines, said the Goa CEO office.
BJP's Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, daughter of former Uttarakhand CM BC Khanduri, wins Kotdwar seat by a margin of 3,687 votes against Congress' Surendra Singh Negi.
The AAP has won 92 seats, followed by Congress (18), Shiromani Akali Dal (three), Bharatiya Janata Party (two), and Bahujan Samaj Party and independent candidate one each.
BJP won 20 seats, followed by Congress (11), Aam Aadmi Party and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak two each, Goa Forward Party and Revolutionary Goans Party one each and Independent (three).
“I would also say today that after the 2019 election results, some political experts had said that the 2017 results decided the 2019 results. I believe this time also he will say that the results of 2022 have decided the results of 2024," said Modi.
“BJP has scripted new history in Uttarakhand. For the first time, a party has come for a second consecutive term in the state," said the PM.
The PM said that exit polls have been proven wrong in Goa and vote shares of BJP have increased in UP, Goa and Manipur.
“The vote shares of BJP increased in UP, Goa and Manipur. The exit polls have been proved wrong in Goa, and the BJP is set to form a government for three consecutive terms," he said.
Addressing BJP workers after his party's landslide victory in four states, PM Modi thanked all voters and stated that this is the first time a CM will be elected for a second term in UP.
“We had said before that Holi will start from March 10. It's a 'victory 4' by our NDA workers. I thank all voters for participating in this festival of democracy and ensuring BJP this victory. For the first time, a CM will be elected for a second term," said Modi.
BJP national president J P Nadda on Thursday said that the results of assembly elections are a stamp of approval on the party's policies and go on to show how much people trust Narendra Modi ji's leadership.
“I would like to thank respected PM for his leadership. Results have many firsts, and give some pointers regarding nation's politics. UP has once again shown confidence in BJP after 2014, 2017 and 2019, and now for the fourth straight time," he said.

The BJP is leading in 30 seats of the 60-seat assembly in Manipur. The trends suggest BJP is set to be the largest party in the state. The Congress is leading in six seats, while NPP and JD(U) are leading in seven seats each.
Goa BJP president Sadanand Shet Tanavade has stated that three independent MLAs gave their letter of support to the party. "So, we will form the government with full majority."

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to return to power with clear majority in UP. Exit polls conducted by ABP-Cvoter, the ruling BJP is likely to bag 228-244 seats, while SP may get 132-148 seats. Several exit polls on Monday forecast a clear majority for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh and the AAP in Punjab with some of them giving an edge to the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.
EC said all strong rooms, where polled EVMs are kept, are under three-layered security with an inner cordon manned by Central Armed Forces. Concerned candidates have been watching the strong room arrangements through CCTV coverage of 24x7. In poll going States, District Administration has imposed sec 144 CrPC around the counting Halls to ensure that peace and tranquillity is not disturbed.
The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the process. According to Election Commission (EC), 671 counting observers, 130 police observers, and 10 Special Observers will be on the ground to ensure the smooth counting process. Commission has also deputed two special officers- CEO Delhi to Meerut and CEO Bihar to Varanasi to supervise the counting arrangements.
