Karnataka election results 2023: The final chapter of the political gaiety of the Karnataka Assembly election 2023 will come to an end on Saturday (13 May) as the Election Commission of India will begin the process of counting the votes at 8 am today. People went to cast votes on 10 May (Wednesday) to choose the next state government in tightly-contested assembly elections.
Karnataka recorded a 73.19% of voter turnout--the highest-ever voter turnout in the southern state ever, the election commission mentioned.
Incumbent Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has exuded confidence in Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) return to power.
Congress said that BJP's defeat in Karnataka will open Delhi's door for Congress in 2024. The grand-old party strived to break the 38-year-old pattern of alternating governments and retain its power in the state.
Exit polls have given Congress an edge over the BJP in the Karnataka Assembly elections. Four exit polls have given Congress a full majority and some have predicted a hung assembly with an advantage to the party.
A few exit polls also said that BJP is ahead and is likely to form the government. The exit polls, which were released after the polling ended in Karnataka, predicted that Janata Dal-Secular JD(S) would not touch the 37 seats it won in the 2018 polls but would continue to be a strong regional player in the state. If Karnataka throws up a hung assembly, the JD-S could emerge as the kingmaker.
