The results are in line with various exit polls, which had also predicted that the Aam Aadmi Party will form the next government in Punjab.
As many as 1,304 candidates, including 93 women and two transgenders, were in the fray.

The AAP has won 92 seats, followed by Congress (18), Shiromani Akali Dal (three), Bharatiya Janata Party (two), and Bahujan Samaj Party and independent candidate one each.
According to election commission data at 6 pm, AAP has won 89 seats and is leading on three more in the 117-member assembly. The ruling Congress has won 15 seats and is leading on three more. The SAD-BSP combine has been able to win only four seats and BJP two in the contest in the state which was being seen as multi-cornered. Independents also won one seat.

Swaraj India president and former AAP leader Yogendra Yadav on Thursday termed the Arvind Kejriwal-led party's performance in Punjab as "spectacular and extraordinary", but said it's more "an indictment" of the "entire political establishment" rather than the success of a party in the electoral battle.
“In Punjab, Congress presented a new leadership through Charanjit Singh Channi who is son of the soil, but the entire anti-incumbency of 4.5 years under Captain Amarinder Singh could not be overcome and hence people voted for AAP for change," Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said.

Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu loses from Amritsar East by a margin of 6,750 votes. Shiromani Akali Dal's Bikram Singh Majithia loses from Amritsar East by a margin of 14,408 votes.

With the AAP all set to sweep the Punjab polls, state Congress chief Navjot Sidhu on Thursday said the party humbly accepts the mandate of the people of the state.
He also congratulated the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party. "The voice of the people is the voice of God …. Humbly accept the mandate of the people of Punjab …. Congratulations to Aap !!!" he said in a tweet.
According to latest trends, the AAP was leading in 90 of the 117 assembly seats.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia on Thursday lauded the party's performance in the Punjab Assembly polls, saying that the victory is an acceptance of the Arvind Kejriwal model of governance.
"Punjab has given chance to Kejriwal's model of governance. Today, his model of governance has been established at the national level," said Sisodia.

In early trends, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, state Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu and Punjab Lok Congress leader Amarinder Singh are trailing from Chamkur Sahib, Amritsar East, and Patiala seats respectively.
Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia were trailing from Amritsar East seat, according to initial poll trends.
Aam Aadmi Party candidate Jeevanjyot Kaur was leading over her nearest rival Majithia by a margin of 590 votes.

A total of 85,27,227 litres of liquor was seized from Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur since the polls were announced on January 8.
The counting of votes will start at 8 am with postal ballots. With exit polls predicting a victory of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, party's state co-in charge Raghav Chadha on Thursday said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal "is the hope of crores of people" and if people give an opportunity, he will be seen in a "bigger role of Prime Minister" after the next Lok Sabha elections.
After each round of counting, tabulation of results in a prescribed format will be done. This will be signed by RO and Observer, and a copy will be shared with the candidates. After the announcement of the round-wise result, counting of the next round will be taken up as per extant instructions. Postal ballot results will also be shared in the prescribed format after obtaining the signatures of candidates' agents.
All strong rooms, where polled EVMs are kept, are under three-layered security with an inner cordon manned by Central Armed Forces. Concerned candidates have been watching the strong room arrangements through CCTV coverage of 24x7. In poll going States, District Administration has imposed sec 144 CrPC around the counting Halls to ensure that peace and tranquillity is not disturbed.
The political fervour goes high as all eyes are on the counting of votes of Assembly elections in five States including Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur, Punjab and Uttarakhand on Thursday.
