As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) looks set to win the Delhi Assembly elections, former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and poet Kumar Vishwas on Saturday congratulated the saffron party, and said he has no sympathy for former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after the latter's election defeat.
Vishwas also alleged that Kejriwal crushed the dreams of AAP party workers for his personal ambitions.
“I congratulate the BJP for the victory and I hope that they'll work for the people of Delhi... I have no sympathy for a man who crushed the dreams of AAP party workers. Delhi is now free from him... He used those dreams for his personal ambitions. Today, justice has been delivered,” Kumar Vishwas said.
“When we got the news of Manish Sisodia losing from Jangpura, my wife, who is apolitical, cried...,” he added.
BJP candidate Parvesh Verma claimed victory against AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi who retained her Kalkaji assembly seat by a margin of 3,580 votes in the Assembly polls by defeating BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri on Saturday conceded the defeat of her Aam Aadmi Party and thanked voters for reposing faith in her while vowing to continue the fight against the BJP.
“I thank the people of Kalkaji for showing trust in me. I congratulate my team who worked against 'baahubal',” Atishi told reporters.
“We accept the people's mandate. I have won but it's not a time to celebrate but continue the 'war' against the BJP,” the 43-year-old said.
Her victory is a standout for the AAP as its top leaders Kejriwal and former Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia lost their constituencies.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the "rule of lies" has ended in Delhi and this is the beginning of a new era of development and trust in Delhi.
In a post on X, Shah said, "Delhi ke Dil mein Modi (Modi in the heart of Delhi)".
