In the Kanakapura and Padmanabhanagar constituencies Congress leader DK Shivakumar was in direct contest against Bharatiya Janata Party's Vokkaliga strongman and state Revenue minister R Ashoka.
The Kanakapura constituency had seen D K Shivakumar of the Congress win the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections seat by defeating Narayana Gowda of the Janata Dal (secular). In 2023 assembly elections, this constituency saw B R Ramchandra from JD(S) fight the battle against Congress heavyweight DK Shivakuma and R Ashoka from BJP.
For the Padmanabhanagar constituency, 2018 saw , BJP's R Ashoka win the seat by defeating V K Gopal of the JD(S). For the 2023 this constituency saw B Manjunath from JD(S) fight V Raghunatha Naidu from Congress, and R Ashoka from BJP.

The victory margin of Congress leader DK Shivakumar is 1,22,392 votes. While the Congress leader bagged 1,42,156 votes, JD(S) B Nagaraju received just 20,631 votes and BJP leader R. Ashoka was on number third with 19,753 votes

The ruling BJP was slightly ahead of the Congress in early trends as the counting of votes was taken up for the Karnataka Assembly elections on Saturday. As per the latest trends, the BJP was ahead in 41, the Congress 36 and JD (S) in 13. Postal ballots were being counted initially. The elections to the 224-member Assembly were held on May 10.
