Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was on Saturday injured after stones were pelted during his 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign in Vijayawada, his office informed.
According to news agency PTI, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party chief was attacked by unknown persons.
Reddy suffered a small cut on his temple above the eye during his ‘Memanta Siddham’ Lok Sabha poll 2024 canvassing bus tour.
"The stone struck the CM while he was acknowledging the crowds as part of his bus tour at Vivekananda School Centre in Singh Nagar, Vijayawada," the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said a statement.
The PTI report said the stone hit the Andhra chief minister at a very high velocity, prompting the people standing around him to apply pressure to his forehead with a handkerchief initially. Officials are suspecting that it could have been launched from a catapult, said the report.
Reddy was immediately administered first aid inside the bus by a doctor.
The report further added that he was attended to by a doctor inside the bus as he grimaced from pain.
However, unfazed by the stone pelting, Reddy resumed his tour in the city, where he has been canvassing for nearly four hours.
Earlier today during the bus tour, Reddy said TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu ignored the handloom weavers' community during his tenure.
"Chandrababu ignored the industry (weavers community) in his previous term, but the current government has backed them in the last five years," said Reddy, adding that Mangalagiri weavers are renowned in the Telugu speaking states for their craft.
Jagan Mohan Reddy has embarked on a 21-day Lok Sabha election 2024 campaign bus tour from Idupulupaya in Kadapa district to Icchapuram in Srikakulam district.
Lok Sabha polls 2024 for the 175-member Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh are scheduled on May 13 and the counting of votes is slated for June 4.
