YS Jaganmohan Reddy sweeps Andhra Pradesh
Jaganmohan Reddy led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) swept to power in Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections 2019 with a landslide victory. Out of 175-Assembly seats, the party bagged 151 seats. YSR Congress also won 22 seats out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh.
Former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP finished a distant second with 23 Assembly and three Lok Sabha seats. Actor Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party (JSP), which made the electoral debut in Lok Sabha elections 2019, bagged one Assembly seat.
Naveen Patnaik led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) retains power for an unprecedented fifth consecutive term in Odisha as the regional party completely decimated the opposition in the state Assembly. According to the Election Commission website at 1 pm, BJD won 106 seats out of a total 146 in the Odisha Assembly. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed 23 seats in the coastal state.
Out of the 21 Lok Sabha seats, the BJD won 12, while the BJP emerged victorious in eight and the Congress opened its account.
Patnaik will be the third Chief Minister in the country to be in power for fifth consecutive term after former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu and Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling.
