NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu’s most popular movie faces flocked to polling booths to cast their vote in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Thursday, 18 April.
11 states and one Union Territory including Assam, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Puducherry are together voting to elect representatives for 95 seats which 1,600 candidates are contesting for in the second phase.
Superstars Rajinikanth and Ajith were among the first to cast their votes early in the morning. The former has announced his own decision to enter politics too though there is no clarity on the name or other details of the party. Music director A.R Rahman also cast his vote early.
Rajni’s wife Latha and daughter Soundarya Rajiniknath were spotted too.
As was his son-in-law and actor Dhanush who even urged fans to go out and vote on his Twitter handle.
Rajni’s rival Kamal Haasan who has also officially entered politics with his Makkal Needhi Maiam party, was next in line with daughter Shruti Haasan. The actor had announced his decision not to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections or the bye-polls due in the state earlier this year.
Actors Suriya and Jyothika voted too, as did actor Vijay whose foray into politics has been long anticipated given his blockbuster political narratives, Sarkar (2018) and Mersal (2017).
Actor Vijay Sethupathi was spotted at the polling booth too.
According to some news reports, actors Sivakarthikeyan and Robo Shankar couldn’t find their names on the voter list though the former did manage to vote later.
