Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday filed his nomination from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. Before filing the nomination, PM Modi offered prayers at Dashashwamedh Ghat on the banks of the Ganges and visited Kal Bhairav temple.

PM Modi is seeking a third term and hoping for a record margin.

Voting in Varanasi will be held on June 1 in the seventh and last phase of the Lok Sabha polls.

Varanasi is the stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party and PM Modi. He won the seat twice- the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Congress has pitted Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai against PM Modi in Varanasi. This is the third time Ajay Rai will face PM Modi in the Lok Sabha contest.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, PM Modi won the seat with over 6,74,664 votes and commanded a vote share of 63.6 per cent. In 2014, PM Modi contested two Lok Sabha seats- from Gujarat's Vadodara and Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi.

PM Modi on the X platfrom wrote, "I am very excited to file my nomination from Varanasi for the third consecutive time. The amazing love and blessings I have received from all of you in the last 10 years have inspired me to work with a constant spirit of service and full determination. With your full support and participation, I will continue to work with new energy and power for the all-round development of this place and the welfare of the people in my third term as well".

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has shared a video with a social activist wherein he wrote on the X platfrom, "After spending 20,000 crore, why has the Ganga gotten dirtier? "

According to veteran Congress leader, PM Modi's eight adopted villages have not seen any developments.

"A March 2024 ground report found that despite big promises of “smart schools”, health facilities, and housing, the villages have seen absolutely no progress in 10 years. Domri village has almost no pukka housing. Nagepur village has extremely shoddy roads. Dalit communities in Jogapur and Jayapur have no toilets and no water, and the flagship Nal Se Jal Scheme seems to have missed Parampur village entirely," Congress MP wrote.

PM Modi has left for Rudraksha International Convention Centre where he will interact with grassroots-level BJP workers of Varanasi.

Chandrababu Naidu terms PM Modi's nomination historical

Former Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday termed the filing of the nomination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi "historical" and said that the country needs PM Modi.

“We are very happy to be associated with it. He brought stability and sustainability in the country for the last 10 years and now he is planning for Viksit Bharat 2047”, he said.

Comedia Shyam Rangeela fails to file nomination from Varanasi

Comedian Shyam Rangeela, known for his videos of mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed that he was not allowed to file nomination from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. Sharing a video on social media, Shyam Rangeela said, “I have all documents yet I am not allowed to file nomination from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. I don't understand why the officials are not allowing me to enter the administrative building”.

BJP workers offer 400-metre saree to Ganga river

BJP district secretary Shivanand Rai in Varanasi and other party workers offered a saree to Ganga river on Monday for the well-being and longevity of Prime Minister Modi.

Rai explained that the length of the saree symbolizes PM Modi's ambition to secure over 400 seats in the upcoming 2024 elections. Despite the river being only 290 metres wide, a 400-metre saree was chosen to represent this goal.

PM Modi is eyeing a hattrick in the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, which he had won for the first time in 2014.

In a post in Hindi on X, Modi said, "My relationship with my Kashi is amazing, inseparable and incomparable... all I can say is that it cannot be expressed in words!"

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will file his nomination papers from Varanasi between 11:40 am and 12 noon. As per HT report, there's a coincidence of Pushya Nakshatra with Ganga Saptami during this time interval. "It is believed that doing any work on this day leads to fulfillment of one's wish. If any work is done in Pushya Nakshatra, its completion is considered certain," astrologer Pandit Rishi Dwivedi said.

ANI reported that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and other National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders are in Varanasi. They made their way to the DM office in the city, ahead of sitting Varanasi MP and BJP Lok Sabha candidate from the seat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi files his nomination on May 14.
