
Telangana Municipal Election Results Live: The ruling Congress in Telangana won a total of 1537 wards in the municipal polls held earlier this week. The main opposition, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), bagged the second place, winning 781 wards, as the counting of votes was held on Friday, Feb 13.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was 336 seats, according to information from the Telangana State Election Commission.
Counting of votes for 116 municipalities and 7 municipal corporations in Telangana began at 8 am today.
Voting was held on a party basis in all 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. The election will elect councillors and corporators. According to the Telangana State Election Commission, 10,719 candidates contested in as many as 2,569 wards across 116 municipalities, while 2,225 candidates are contesting in 412 wards in the seven municipal corporations.
What did exit polls say?
According to the Pulse Today, the Congress, which is also the ruling party in Telangana, is likely to win 68-76 municipalities out of the 116 municipalities. The BRS, on the other hand, is likely to win 29-36 seats and the BJP may won three to five. AIMIM is predicted to win just one seat.
DGP B Shivadhar Reddy said Polling for the elections to 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations in Telangana concluded peacefully on Wednesday.
Reddy, who monitored the polling process from here, said elaborate security arrangements were put in place to ensure a smooth process. Minor skirmishes took place in Karimnagar, Sangareddy and some other places, police said.
What happened in the last municipal elections?
The last municipal polls in Telangana were held in 2020. As many as 2755 wards went to the polls across 121 Municipalities. The BRS, emerged as the largest party by amassing 1767 wards. Congress finished second, winning 580 wards. The BJP won 311 wards, while the AIMIM won 93.

The ruling Congress marked a decisive victory in the Telangana municipal elections, with its candidates winning around 1500 wards by Friday evening. Following them were BRS in more than 700 wards and BJP in over 290 wards as the vote count continued, according to state election commission.
Telangana BJP President Ramchander Rao told ANI, "The BJP thanks the people of Telangana for giving the party its mandate in over 350 divisions, both corporations and municipalities. In Kurnool District, the Congress wins 16 of 19 wards in Kollapur municipality, Telangana Congress posted on X.

Congress leaders claimed the party is leading in 35 of the 48 wards in Nalgonda Municipal Corporation, says India Express.
