Donald Trump won Arizona after a delay in vote counting, marking his second victory in the state following his 2016 win. After four days of counting in the southwest state with a large Hispanic population, Trump obtained its 11 electoral votes.
With Arizona's results finalised, Donald Trump has completed a clean sweep, bringing his Electoral College total to 312, compared to 226 for Vice President Kamala Harris, reports have stated. Arizona contributed 11 electoral votes to Trump's total. Trump is set to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20.
The Associated Press reported that Donald Trump received 74.6 million votes nationwide, or 50.5 percent while Kamala Harris garnered 70.9 million votes i.e. 48 percent.
The Republican party have already regained control of the Senate and look well set to retain a majority in the House of Representatives.
In 2020, Joe Biden became the first Democrat to win Arizona since Bill Clinton in 1996. Now, Donald Trump has flipped the state back to the Republican column. Arizona is the sixth state that Trump flipped from Joe Biden's 2020 Electoral College win, following Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Additionally, Trump secured a win in North Carolina, a state he narrowly won in 2020.
During his campaign in Arizona, Trump focused strongly on border security, immigration, and crime associated with illegal immigration, issues that resonated deeply in the state, which saw a record surge in migrant arrivals last year. Trump vowed to carry out mass deportations, called for the hiring of 10,000 additional border agents to patrol the US-Mexico border, and proposed using part of the military budget to fund border security measures.
