An Air India flight bound for London Gatwick crashed during take-off from Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon, in what is being described as one of the most serious aviation tragedies in recent years.
Actor Shah Rukh Khan expressed grief over the incident, saying he was "absolutely heartbroken".
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Shah Rukh wrote, “Absolutely heartbroken with the news about the crash in Ahmedabad… my prayers for the victims, their families and all affected.”
Several other Bollywood celebrities also reacted to the tragedy. Stars including Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Kangana Ranaut, and Sonu Sood took to social media to share their condolences.
The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people including passengers and crew, crashed into a densely populated residential area just minutes after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.
In a statement on X, Air India said the flight was carrying 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also responded to the incident, calling it "heartbreaking beyond words". He posted, “The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected.”
Shah Rukh Khan, who recently made his debut at the Met Gala in an outfit styled by designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, was last seen in the film *Dunki*.
