Stand-up comedian and actor Alex Duong has died at the age of 42 after a prolonged battle with a rare form of cancer, according to reports.

Blue Bloods actor Alex Duong has passed away

Duong passed away on Sunday, as confirmed in an update shared on a fundraising page that had been created to support his medical treatment. “With the heaviest hearts, we share that our dear Alex passed away peacefully this morning, surrounded by love and dear friends,” read an update post from the GoFundMe page.

"He was comfortable and thankfully out of pain. [His wife] Christina and [daughter] Everest were able to see him last night, and he was alert enough to say goodbye to his little girl, whom he has treasured every moment since the day she was born. We are devastated, but so grateful for the support, prayers, and generosity you have all shown during this unimaginable time. Your continued support now means everything as Christina and Everest navigate the days ahead and arrange a beautiful celebration of his life," the post read.

The comedian had been diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer. The illness had significantly affected his eyesight, prompting the fundraising effort launched in February 2025 to help cover mounting medical expenses.

Duong was widely recognised for his work in stand-up comedy as well as his appearances on television. He featured in the long-running police procedural drama Blue Bloods, and had a diverse range of credits across popular shows. His television work included roles in Everybody Hates Chris, MADtv, Dexter, Death Valley and The Young and the Restless.

In film, he appeared in projects such as Formosa Betrayed, Ghetto Physics and The Beyond, among others. His work, while often in supporting roles, reflected a consistent presence across both comedic and dramatic formats.

As news of his illness spread, the entertainment community rallied around him. In August last year, a benefit event titled “The Alex Duong Has Cancer In His Eye Comedy Benefit Show” was held at the Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles. The show featured several well-known comedians, including Ronny Chieng, Andrea Jin and Atsuko Okatsuka, highlighting the support he received from peers in the industry.

Duong’s passing has prompted tributes from fellow comedians and fans, many of whom remembered him for his sharp wit and resilience in the face of illness. Though he did not headline major productions, his steady work and presence in the comedy circuit earned him respect among colleagues.

His death underscores the challenges faced by performers dealing with serious health conditions, particularly those working outside the highest tiers of the industry. The fundraising effort and benefit shows reflected both the financial strain of long-term illness and the solidarity within the comedy community.

Duong is survived by his family and close friends.
