Dharmendra health update: Veteran actor discharged from Mumbai hospital, to continue treatment at home

Veteran actor Dharmendra, 89, has been on ventilator support since 10 November.

Veteran actor Dharmendra was discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Wednesday morning after his family decided that he would continue treatment at home, his doctor confirmed to PTI.

The 89-year-old actor has reportedly been in and out of the hospital over the past few weeks.

“Dharmendra ji was discharged around 7.30 am. The family has chosen to continue his treatment at home,” said Dr Pratit Samdani, Breach Candy Hospital.

He added, “Pray that his treatment, management and recovery continue.”

Shatrughan Sinha Prays For Dharmendra’s Speedy Recovery

In a conversation with Rediff, actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha expressed his concern for his longtime friend Dharmendra, wishing him good health and a quick recovery.

“I wish my friend many more years of a healthy life. He has so much to be proud of — now his grandsons are also actors. That’s three generations of the Deols in our film industry, and that’s no small achievement,” Sinha said.

Actor Divya Dutta also sent her best wishes to Dharmendra for a speedy recovery, while fondly recalling the bond she shares with the veteran star.

On Tuesday, Divya shared a video on Instagram from her cab while stuck in Mumbai traffic. In the background, Dharmendra’s classic song Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas played softly as she captured the city’s everyday moments — youngsters playing badminton and a mother embracing her son.

Alongside the clip, she wrote, “The spirit of Mumbai — the buzzing city. Traffic jam, with rushing vehicles on one side and the closed road on the other. Youngsters playing badminton, a mother embracing her son.”

In her mother’s biography, Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl, Esha Deol shared a deeply personal story about visiting her father Dharmendra’s family home for the first time. She revealed that she was the first from Hema Malini’s side of the family to step into the Deol household.

Esha recalled being very close to Dharmendra’s brother, Ajeet Deol — actor Abhay Deol’s father. When Ajeet fell seriously ill in 2015, Esha wanted to meet him but found that he was being treated at Dharmendra’s residence. To make the visit possible, she reached out to her half-brother Sunny Deol, who helped arrange it.

“I wanted to meet my uncle and pay my respects. He loved me and Ahana very much, and we were also very close to Abhay,” Esha shared in the book. “So I called Sunny Bhaiya, and he made all the arrangements for us to meet him.”

During that visit, Esha unexpectedly came face-to-face with Prakash Kaur, Dharmendra’s first wife and her stepmother. Describing the emotional moment, Esha said, “I touched her feet, and she left me after blessing me.”

Though brief, the meeting marked a rare and heartfelt moment of warmth and respect between the two branches of the Deol family.

Esha Deol's ex-husband Bharat Takhtani visits Dharmendra in hospital

On Tuesday evening, Dharmendra's daughter Esha Deol's ex-husband, Bharat Takhtani, reached Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital. The veteran actor is admitted to the same hospital.

Sunny Deol's statement

Amid several unverified reports about his health and even rumours of his death circulating online, Dharmendra’s son and actor Sunny Deol's team issued a new statement, “Sir is recovering and responding to treatment, let's all pray for his good health and long life.”

Earlier in the morning, Esha Deol also issued a statement urging restraint.

“The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for papa’s speedy recovery,” Esha wrote in her post.

Hema Malini Slams Media Over False Reports

Reacting to rumours about her husband’s health, Hema Malini criticised sections of the media for spreading misinformation. “What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and recovering? This is extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please respect the family and our need for privacy,” she wrote on X.

Meanwhile, a video shared by paparazzo Pallav Paliwal shows Abhay Deol arriving at Bobby Deol’s residence in Mumbai on Tuesday morning. He was seen getting out of the car and quickly making his way to Bobby Deol’s residence. Meanwhile, Esha Deol and Hema Malini were snapped by the paparazzi arriving at the hospital in a car.

On Monday, Sunny Deol’s team released another statement requesting people not to circulate unverified information about Dharmendra’s health. “Mr Dharmendra is stable and under observation. Further updates will be shared when available. We urge everyone to refrain from spreading false rumours, respect the family’s privacy, and continue praying for his speedy recovery,” the statement said.

Shah Rukh Khan and his son Aryan, along with Salman Khan, Govinda and Ameesha Patel, were among the many celebrities who visited veteran actor Dharmendra at the hospital.

Often hailed as Bollywood’s He-Man, Dharmendra has been one of Hindi cinema’s most enduring and beloved stars, known for his powerful performances and charm across genres. Over his six-decade-long career, he delivered unforgettable roles in classics such as Sholay, Phool Aur Patthar, Chupke Chupke, Dharam Veer, Mera Gaon Mera Desh and Dream Girl.

Dharmendra was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, and will next appear in Ikkis, featuring Agastya Nanda in the lead role. The film is slated for release on December 25. Fans and colleagues across the industry continue to send prayers and messages for the veteran actor’s recovery.

Dharmendra’s next film, Ikkis, will be released worldwide on Christmas Day. The war drama is directed by Sriram Raghavan.

Ikkis stars Agastya Nanda, Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson, as Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee. Dharmendra plays an important role in the movie.
