Ranbir Kapoor shared a humorous moment with a fan during the teaser unveiling of his upcoming film Ramayana in Los Angeles, and the interaction is now doing the rounds on social media.
The event, which saw Kapoor alongside director Nitesh Tiwari, marked a key promotional milestone for the ambitious mythological project. However, it was an unexpected fan interaction that ended up stealing the spotlight.
An attendee, identified as Vishal Mishra on X (formerly Twitter), shared a selfie with the actor and recounted a playful exchange. According to his post, he jokingly told Kapoor that he “loved” his performance in Dhurandhar — a franchise headlined by Ranveer Singh.
Kapoor, momentarily caught off guard, reportedly began to clarify the mix-up. “No, that is a different Ranveer…” he said, before realising that the comment was made in jest.
The fan later revealed that the joke was a reference to a popular advertisement featuring Kapoor and Aamir Khan, where a similar confusion between names is played out for comic effect. In the ad, Aamir repeatedly refers to Kapoor as “Ranbir Singh”, prompting a series of humorous exchanges.
Once Kapoor caught on to the joke, his reaction was equally light-hearted. “He paused, said ‘oh’ and started laughing,” the fan wrote, describing the moment.
The interaction has since gained traction online, with many users appreciating Kapoor’s easygoing response and sense of humour.
The reference to Dhurandhar is significant, given the franchise’s massive success at the box office. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the first instalment reportedly grossed over ₹1300 crore worldwide. Its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has gone a step further, crossing the ₹1400 crore mark — a rare milestone for a Hindi film without relying heavily on overseas markets like China.
The films follow the story of an Indian spy operating under deep cover, navigating complex geopolitical challenges. The franchise features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and R Madhavan, among others.
While the fan’s joke centred around Dhurandhar, Kapoor’s current focus remains firmly on Ramayana, one of the most anticipated Indian films in recent years.
The project features a star-studded cast, with Sai Pallavi playing Sita, Yash portraying Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. Actors Kajal Aggarwal and Rakul Preet Singh will be seen as Mandodari and Surpanakha, respectively.
The film is being mounted on a large scale, with music composed by Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman — a collaboration that has further heightened expectations.
Planned as a two-part epic, Ramayana is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release, with Part 1 set to arrive during Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027.
