The search for the actor who will take over the role of James Bond from Daniel Craig may finally be approaching its conclusion. After months of speculation over who could become the next 007, a new report claims the casting process has entered its final round.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman offered the latest update on the highly anticipated casting decision in a post on X. According to Richtman, the filmmakers may have already identified the actor they want to take on the iconic role.
“I hear they're in the final round of casting for James Bond and might have already found their guy,” Daniel wrote.
The claim has not been officially confirmed by the makers of the next James Bond film. No actor has yet been announced as Craig's successor.
The latest development comes after reports that the casting process had moved into a more advanced phase earlier this year.
Director Denis Villeneuve, who is attached to helm the next Bond film, and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman were reportedly involved in the process of informing actors who had progressed to the next stage. Screen tests were also reportedly expected to take place in August.
While the identities of the final candidates have not been officially disclosed, several actors have repeatedly been linked to the franchise.
The names that have emerged in reports include Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Turner and Lowden, in particular, have featured prominently in recent speculation. Some reports have suggested that Masters of the Air actor Turner is among the strongest contenders, while other reports have pointed towards Lowden.
Both actors have also appeared prominently in betting markets tracking potential choices for the role.
However, these reports remain speculation until the studio or filmmakers make an official announcement.
The casting search follows Daniel Craig's departure from the franchise after five films as the British secret agent.
Craig's final outing as Bond came in No Time To Die, which marked the end of his tenure as 007. The film concluded a run that began with Casino Royale in 2006.
Since then, the question of who will inherit the role has remained one of the biggest unanswered casting questions in the film industry.
The next actor will also take on a character with one of the most established histories in cinema.
James Bond was created by British author Ian Fleming, whose first Bond novel, Casino Royale, was published in 1953.
The official film franchise began with Dr. No in 1962, with Sean Connery becoming the first actor to portray Bond on the big screen.
Connery was followed by George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Across 25 official films, the six actors have offered distinct interpretations of the MI6 agent.
The next casting decision will therefore determine not only who plays Bond but also the direction of the franchise's next era.
