A video from Tamil Nadu has gone viral on social media, showing a fan dressed as a Daiva making a dramatic entrance during a screening of Kantara Chapter 1 in Dindigul. The clip has since divided opinion online.
In the video, the fan — fully dressed in Daiva attire — can be seen entering the theatre amidst cheers and surprise from the audience. Security personnel attempted to intervene, but the fan continued to move around the auditorium, leaving many viewers stunned.
Multiple videos of the incident have surfaced across social media platforms, sparking widespread discussion. One user wrote, “After the screening of Kantara Chapter 1 in Dindigul, a fan dressed as a Daiva stunned the audience. Goosebumps.” Another commented, “This happened in Dindigul. TN people are going crazy for #KantaraChapter1.”
However, not everyone approved of the gesture. Some users criticised the act, calling it disrespectful to cultural traditions. One post read, “This is very wrong. I know people are excited, but please don’t do this. For us Tuluvas, these are sacred rituals and part of our identity.”
Another added, “Is this how we respect Daivaradhane? Dressing up as a Daiva for entertainment is against our beliefs. Turning something sacred into spectacle is not right. Think — is this what we want the next generation to see?”
The viral clip has reignited conversations about maintaining respect for sacred traditions while celebrating cinematic portrayals inspired by them.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed at a multiplex in Belagavi on Sunday after the screening of Kantara Chapter 1 was delayed by more than an hour, sparking anger among moviegoers, The Hindu reported.
The 3:30 p.m. show at Nucleus Mall did not begin even by 4:45 p.m., leaving the audience restless. Frustrated viewers demanded ticket refunds and gathered near the collection counter, shouting at the theatre manager over the delay.
Even after the manager announced that refunds would be issued, the situation remained tense, with the crowd refusing to disperse. The police were called in to control the situation and prevent further unrest.
Eventually, calm was restored after the multiplex management refunded the ticket money, following which the crowd gradually dispersed.
Kantara Chapter 1, written and directed by Rishab Shetty, follows the backstory of the guardian deity Panjurli Daiva, portraying the struggle between a tribal community and a tyrannical king.
The film stars Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah in key roles while Shetty reprises his lead role.
Meanwhile, the film is set to be screened at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 5, in the presence of writer-director and lead actor Rishab Shetty, actor Rukmini Vasanth, and producer Chaluve Gowda. This special screening marks yet another milestone in the movie’s remarkable journey and box office success.
