T-Series head Bhushan Kumar and Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri have announced a new film, Operation Sindoor, according to PTI. It is inspired by India’s targeted military strikes on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) after the Pahalgam attack.
The film is based on the book Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan. It is written by Lt Gen K.J.S. Dhillon (Retd).
Vivek Agnihotri will direct the film, which will be jointly produced by T-Series and I Am Budha Productions. The director is known for picking socio-political topics for his films: The Tashkent Files (2019), The Kashmir Files (2022) and The Vaccine War (2023). However, it is a recent development. Agnihotri's earlier movies were known for erotic content: Chocolate (2005), Hate Story (2012) and Zid (2014).
In the days following India's military strikes in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, Bollywood rushed to capitalise on the moment. Over 30 film title applications linked to the operation were submitted in just two days to industry bodies including the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association, the Indian Film and Television Producers Council and the Western India Film Producers' Association, according to The Times of India’s report in May 2025.
Titles such as Operation Sindoor, Mission Sindoor, Hindustan Ka Sindoor, Sindoor Ka Badla and Sindoor: The Revenge were among those applied for. Filmmakers also filed titles referencing the Pahalgam terror attack that preceded the strikes. Such titles included Pahalgam: The Terror Attack and Pahalgam Attack, according to the publication.
Among those who applied were Dhurandhar director Aditya Dhar, actor Suniel Shetty, filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and production house T-Series, the TOI report said.
IMPPA Secretary Anil Nagrath told PTI that the number of applications was expected to rise to 50–60. He noted that this was not unusual, citing past surges around Kargil, Uri and Kumbh.
Title registration costs ₹300 plus GST, or ₹3,000 on an urgent basis. Titles are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis by a joint committee. There is no room for favouritism, according to Nagrath. Producers have three years to complete the film, failing which the title is withdrawn.
