Bollywood actor Sara Ali Khan addressed the knife attack on her father, actor Saif Ali Khan. Recalling how things could have gone “so wrong”, she shared what the incident has made her realise about life.
Sara, at NDTV Yuva, shared that the family is feeling grateful, owing to Saif Ali Khan's recovery.
"It could have gone so wrong... and I am so grateful that everything is fine. It was a reminder almost of the life we have. We all talk about practicing mental health. Being grateful for your life is so important. And moments like that make you realise it," Sara said.
Asked if the incident brought the family closer, Sara added, “It's about making you realise how transient the things that you chase are. It didn’t make me realise I love my father, I have known that for 29 years. It made me realise life can change overnight. So every second of every day deserves mindful celebration. It made me realise the importance of just being.”
She also noted, “It takes COVID to realise the importance of being at home with your family, or it takes somebody being almost attacked for you to be like, 'okay, life matters.' Life does matter. The small joys do matter. Celebrate everyday that you are alive. That is what life is about.”
Saif Ali Khan, 54, was attacked in the early hours of January 16 at his Bandra home in Mumbai. He was stabbed six times by the assailant, who broke into his house in an attempted burglary.
The actor suffered several injuries, including one near his neck and another near his spine. He was rushed to the hospital immediately where he underwent multiple surgeries.
He was discharged from the hospital five days later. He made his first public appearance after the knife attack as he promoted his upcoming Netflix film - Jewel Thief.
Following this, security was significantly increased around his residence. Kareena Kapoor and Saif also requested paparazzi not to photograph their children.
Talking about the incident, Saif had said previously that he does not plan to keep any weapons for added security in his house. He believes that the incident was a burglary attempt gone wrong. He told Bombay Times, "Nothing will change. See, if you start doing that... because I don’t feel I’m under threat. It was not a premeditated attack. I think it just was a burglary attempt gone wrong. That poor guy, his life is more screwed than mine.”
The alleged intruder was later arrested.
