Actor Ayesha Harris has been promoted to a series regular role in the upcoming third season of the medical drama The Pitt, while Supriya Ganesh is set to exit the show after its second season, according to a report by Variety.

Harris, who portrays senior night shift resident Dr Parker Ellis, will now take on a more prominent position in the series. She first appeared in four of the 15 episodes in Season 1 and returned for Season 2, gradually becoming a more visible part of the show’s narrative. Her promotion suggests a shift in focus as the series prepares to expand its character arcs in the next season.

In contrast, Ganesh, who has played senior resident Dr Samira Mohan since the show’s debut, will depart following Season 2. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, her exit is a story-driven decision rather than an abrupt change.

Within the storyline, the departure aligns with the structure of the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, which operates as a teaching hospital. In such settings, it is common for residents to complete their training and move on to the next stage of their careers.

The show itself reflects this reality. Over the course of Season 2, Dr. Mohan has been shown considering her professional future, weighing options for what comes after her residency ends. Her exit is therefore expected to form part of a natural narrative progression rather than a sudden storyline disruption.

Harris’s expanded role also reflects her growing presence in television. Beyond The Pitt, she is known for her work in series such as Daisy Jones and the Six on Amazon Prime Video and Glamorous on Netflix. Her previous credits include appearances in This Is Us, The L Word: Generation Q, Abbott Elementary, and Good Girls, showcasing a range of roles across genres.

The Pitt, an HBO Max medical drama, has drawn attention for its focus on hospital life and the pressures faced by medical professionals. Like several recent shows in the genre, it aims to combine character-driven storytelling with workplace realism. The rotation of residents is a core element of this setting, and the casting changes appear to reinforce that approach.

While details about Season 3 remain limited, the casting update signals a transition period for the series. With Harris stepping into a larger role and Ganesh preparing to exit, the show appears set to evolve its ensemble while maintaining continuity within its hospital setting.
