Amid controversy, standup comedian Kunal Kamra has released a satirical music video on the recent vandalism at The Habitat after his “traitor” comment on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The music video is a part of his original standup video that was released on YouTube. He mixed the parody song with clips of the vandalism that took place at the community centre where Kamra shot his standup video.
Meanwhile, BMC workers resumed demolition at Mumbai’s Habitat Studio. Officials cited rule violations as the reason for the action. This was the second straight day BMC visited The Habitat in Khar to remove the illegal part of the venue.
Kunal Kamra earlier criticised the demolition of the Habitat Comedy Club, where his controversial performance took place. He clarified that the venue had no control over his content and should not be held responsible.
Kamra addressed the ‘Mob That Decided That Habitat Should Not Stand’ and wrote on Instagram, “An entertainment venue is merely a platform. A space for all sorts of shows. Habitat (or any other venue) is not responsible for my comedy, nor does it have any power or control over what I say or do. Neither does any political party.”
“Attacking a venue for a comedian's words is as senseless as overturning a lorry carrying tomatoes, because you didn't like the butter chicken you were served,” he added.
Take a look at the music video:
“Thane ki rickshaw, Chehre pe daadhi, Aankhon pe chashma, haaye,” Kunal Kamra sang during his performance.
“Ek jhalak dikhlaye kabhi, Guwahati me chhup jaaye, meri nazar se tum dekho gaddar nazar wo aaye,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kamra has firmly stated he will not apologise for calling Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde a “traitor”. He defended his remarks by pointing out that NCP leader Ajit Pawar had also made similar comments about Shinde in the past.
“I will not apologise. What I said is exactly what Mr. Ajit Pawar (Ist deputy CM) said about Mr. Eknath Shinde (2nd Deputy CM). I don't fear this mob & I will not be hiding under my bed, waiting for this to die down,” he wrote on social media.
Eknath Shinde said Kunal Kamra's comment surpassed the “limit”.
"Freedom of speech is there. We understand satire. But there should be a limit. This is like taking 'supari' (contract) to speak against someone. Otherwise, action causes reaction," Shinde said.
