Yuzvendra Chahal Dhanashree Verma divorce: Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma's divorce made headlines before the duo publicly acknowledged the rumour. While their divorce was finalised on March 20, reports suggested that the couple had already separated in June 2022. But why?
The latest news report said the celebrity couple had a rift over where they would live, leading to their decision to part ways.
A senior entertainment journalist, Vickey Lalwani, recently made a sensational claim about the “root cause” of Yuzi and Dhanashree's divorce.
According to Lalwani, the duo had a difference of opinion about their choice of residence—while Dhanashree wanted to be based in Mumbai, Chahal did not want to leave his roots in Harayana.
After their wedding in December 2020, Dhanashree and Chahal moved to Haryana to live with the cricketer’s parents. However, according to media reports, within a few days, Dhanashree shared that she wanted to relocate to Mumbai, which did not sit well with Chahal.
In his post, Vickey Lalwani said, “After tying the knot, Yuzi and Dhanashree had shifted to stay with Yuzi’s parents in Haryana and came to Mumbai only when they needed to.”
“Yes, this Mumbai-Haryana jhagda was one of the main reasons why this much-in-the-paparazzi-world marriage ended. Yuzi was clear that he wouldn’t uproot himself from his parents’ home and surroundings,” he added.
However, neither Yuzvendra Chahal, Dhanashree Verma, nor their families have confirmed the claims.
Rumours about the couple's separation began in 2023 after Dhanashree removed 'Chahal' from her name on Instagram. This came a day after Yuzvendra shared a cryptic Instagram story that read, “New life loading”.
In their official statement, the couple said they had parted ways amicably and by mutual consent.
Yuzvendra Chahal had agreed to pay a permanent alimony of ₹4 crore 75 lakhs to Dhanashree Verma. The cricketer is said to have already paid ₹2 crore 37 lakhs and 55 thousand, reported Bar and Bench.
On 20 March, Chahal and Dhanashree were granted divorce by the Bandra Family Court after the Bombay High Court directed the family court to expedite proceedings, citing Chahal's commitments with Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
On the day of the divorce, Chahal’s advocate, Nitin Kumar Gupta, confirmed to ANI, “The court has granted the decree of divorce, and both parties are no longer husband and wife."
