New Delhi: WPP Plc owned marketing agency VMLY&R on Monday announced that it has appointed Anil Nair as chief executive of its India business effective immediately. Based out of agency’s Mumbai office, he will report to VMLY&R Asia co-chief executive Tripti Lochan, who is based in Singapore.

Nair will oversee VMLY&R’s India operation, driving growth and building on agency’s integrated service offering spanning creative, technology and data services.

“Anil comes to us with the right vision and experience to make this happen, marrying strategy with an understanding of brand, digital and commerce. He boasts an exemplary record for driving agency excellence and innovation, while exhibiting a deep understanding of the Indian marketplace. This is an exciting time for VMLY&R as we continue to flourish in India, and I can think of no one better to lead the way," said Tripti Lochan in a statement.

Nair joins VMLY&R from Law & Kenneth Saatchi & Saatchi India where he has been serving as digital CEO and managing partner. With more than 24 years of advertising and digital experience, he was a part of the founding team at Law and Kenneth (L&K) Communications in 2002. He is recognised for his role in helping build Law & Kenneth Communications from the ground up into an independent agency, prior to its merger with Saatchi & Saatchi in 2014. Prior to Law & Kenneth, he was a brand planning director with Lowe Lintas. He has also worked with agencies such as McCann Erickson (now McCann Worldgroup India) and Mudra Communications.

“At a time when consumer behaviour and demand continues to evolve in line with advancing technology, VMLY&R with its marketing-company meets creative-agency rigour, represents a breath of fresh air for its clients via a service offering which is arguably the most relevant, necessary and contemporary in the market today. I look forward to playing my part in VMLY&R’s continued success story in India," said Nair on his new role.

VMLY&R India has been on a hiring spree having appointed Kevin Lobo as executive creative director for India and Sujay Kar as commerce group lead, VMLY&R South East Asia and India.

VMLY&R was created after WPP merged digital agency VML and creative firm Y&R to create a new entity in September 2018. With more than 7,000 employees worldwide the agency has principal offices in Kansas City, London, New York, São Paulo, Shanghai, Singapore and Sydney. It handles clients such as ICICI Bank, consumer goods company Marico, Abbott Pharma and Swaraj Tractors among others.
