Laptops with Nvidia's new RTX 2080/2070 Super GPUs to launch on 15 April
Lenovo Legion 7i and Lenovo Legion Y740 laptops with RTX 2070 GPU will start at a price of $1,199The new crop will also include laptops with last year's GeForce RTX 2060 GPU
PC gamers and creators who plan to buy new laptops have a reason to cheer as Nvidia's latest GeForce RTX 2080 Super and RTX 2070 Super GPUs will be available from 15 April in the latest crop of thin and light laptops. More than 100 laptops by leading companies--HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus, Dell and MSI--will be launched over the course of the next few months.
Lenovo Legion 7i and Lenovo Legion Y740 laptops with RTX 2070 GPU will start at a price of $1,199.
The new crop will also include laptops with last year's GeForce RTX 2060 GPU, which is one of the highest selling segments for gaming laptops. However, these laptops will sell at a lower price of $999.
Some of the top variants of these laptops will support 300Hz refresh rate. Higher refresh rate reduces latency, minimises ghosting and improves visual experience.
“Nvidia's real-time ray tracing represents a seismic shift in how games look, play and feel. Having this technology available in a laptop for just $999 is amazing. And thanks to Max-Q, consumers will have a selection of remarkably thin and light laptops to choose from across all price points," said Jeff Fisher, senior vice president of gaming at Nvidia, in a press statement.
Max Q is a unique approach used to design high performance laptops. Max Q GPUs are optimised for peak efficiency so that they do not heat up during games and deliver the best possible performance required for modern day games. It is one of the reasons why Max-Q graphics cards are slightly less powerful compared to native counterparts.
Nvidia has made significant upgrades to improve the performance of Max Q GPUs. For instance, the Dynamic boost capability automatically balances power between the GPU and CPU on a per-frame basis, improving overall in-game performance without increasing power consumption.
The newly added Advanced Optimus tool decides which GPU is ideal for display based on the task running on the system and can dynamically switch between integrated graphics and dedicated graphics without rebooting the system.
The new GPUs now use low voltage GDDR6 memory.
To boost user experience on Max Q GPU laptops, Nvidia has released the updated version of deep learning super sampling (DLSS), its AI-based rendering tech. It gives gamers the performance headroom to maximize ray tracing settings and increase output resolutions. It also improves frame rates in games and makes on screen content look more detailed.
Ray tracing works by tracking the path of individual light rays in a 3D scene resulting in more accurate shadows and reflections.
Nvidia has also developed a new generalised model for all games allowing developers to integrate DLSS in games much faster. Wolfenstein Youngblood, Control, Deliver Us the Moon and MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries are some of the games that support DLSS 2.0.
