New Delhi: Romantic comedy Jabariya Jodi failed to improve on its unimpressive first day collections, making ₹6.50 crore across the country at last count. The film, with Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra as stars, had started small with ₹2.75 crore on Friday, in the same range as flops like Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga and lower than even niche movies like The Accidental Prime Minister and Thackeray, according to trade website Box Office India.
“Jabariya Jodi is dull on day one. Needs miraculous growth on day two and three for a respectable weekend total," trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted.
Box Office India said the film can look at net domestic collections of ₹15 crore after four days given that there is a holiday for Bakrid on Monday but that will still mean poor returns, especially given that it only has another two days to build on business with Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal and John Abraham’s Batla House scheduled for Independence Day.
Meanwhile, Hollywood action flick Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw has turned in below average to average earnings after its second weekend and is looking at ₹55.87 crore in the country currently. Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao’s Judgementall Hai Kya has also exhausted its box office run, collecting ₹33.25 crore after its third weekend and is likely to finish around ₹34.50 crore.
The big blockbuster of the season, however, is Disney’s fantasy animation flick The Lion King that has collected ₹145 crore till now and is now likely to cross the ₹150 crore mark and the business of Bollywood hits like Total Dhamaal and Kesari though the earnings will come from multiple languages and not one, unlike the Hindi films, said Box Office India.
“The Lion King inches closer to ₹150 crore. Has one more week to score (till 15 August). Business will depend on screen space thereafter," Adarsh had tweeted.
Hrithik Roshan-starrer Super 30 has also sustained a solid run, taking its domestic total to ₹142.75 crore, likely to surpass the ₹145 crore mark, though probably not ₹150 crore, given that it will have limited screens after the Independence Day releases.
“Super 30 stays strong in week four. Should comfortably cross ₹145 crore, before the new releases arrive (15 August)," Adarsh had tweeted.
