New Delhi: The clash at the box office has resulted in poor returns for both Bollywood releases this week. At Rs. 4.25 crore, Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao-starrer Judgementall Hai Kya has only marginally edged past Diljit Dosanjh and Kriti Sanon’s Arjun Patiala that opened to Rs. 1.25 crore.
Trade website Box Office India said Ranaut and Rao’s campy psychological thriller was mainly finding an audience in the metros. Its first day collections were a notch above Rao’s previous release Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, co-starring Sonam Kapoor that was also a niche, multiplex film but had earned Rs. 2.86 crore on its opening day in February. The film does have a chance of sustaining Monday onwards.
That does not hold true for Arjun Patiala that has failed to take off despite Dosanjh’s popularity in the north.
The big blockbuster of the month, however, is Disney’s fantasy animation flick The Lion King that has taken its India total to Rs. 86 crore with chances to cross the ₹150 crore mark. Box Office India said the film is the fourth biggest hit of 2019 so far after Kabir Singh, Uri: The Surgical Strike and Avengers: Endgame, as far as Hollywood and Bollywood releases go.
“The Lion King is a success story. Puts up a fantastic total in week one. Business in weekend two will give an idea of its lifetime total," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
