‘Judgementall Hai Kya’ grows over weekend, ‘Lion King’ soars

  • Hrithik Roshan-starrer 'Super 30' has crossed the 125 crore mark after its third weeken
  • The big blockbuster of the month, however, is Disney’s animation flick 'The Lion King'

Psychological black comedy Judgementall Hai Kya grew over the weekend after a dull first day and is looking at three-day collections of 19.25 crore. Trade website Box Office India said the film is not doing well in mass pockets but gaining ground in multiplexes, much like director Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15 which released last month and had also managed a weekend of 19.84 crore.

“Judgementall Hai Kya goes from strength to strength on day three. National multiplexes are super-strong. Overall, solid growth over the weekend," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

The other Hindi release of the week, comedy drama Arjun Patiala has only earned 4.50 crore over the weekend despite the popularity of lead actor Diljit Dosanjh, especially in the north. Box Office India said the opening day collections of 1.25 crore had indicated that the film stood no chance and was unlikely to grow.

The big blockbuster of the month, however, is Disney’s animation flick The Lion King ( 32.25 crore) that had the second highest second weekend of all time for a Hollywood film in India after Avengers: Endgame ( 50.92 crore). The film currently stands at 113 crore and is looking to cross the 150 crore mark. It is already the fourth highest grossing Hollywood film of all time in India.

“The Lion King continues to roar. Scores big numbers on Saturday and now, Sunday. Eyes lifetime business of 150 crore," Adarsh tweeted.

Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan-starrer Super 30 has crossed the 125 crore mark after its third weekend, with only a 50% drop as compared to the second. Box Office India said the film will beat the business of musical drama Gully Boy, thanks to better performance in mass centers likely due to tax exemptions in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The film should finish in the 140 crore net earnings range and could even become the second highest net grosser for Roshan, beating the 141 crore figures of his 2014 hit Bang Bang.

“Super 30 catches speed on (third) Saturday. Again, like the previous weekend, the numbers record big jump (108.88%) on Saturday. Will comfortably cross 130 crore, with chances of going (near-about) 140 crore," Adarsh tweeted.
