Building on the strong legacy of its animated action comedies, Disney’s The Lion King opened strong at about Rs. 10.50 crore in India on Friday.
The Jon Favreau directed film has notched up the sixth highest first day figure for a Hollywood film in India after Avengers: Endgame (Rs. 53.30 crore), Avengers: Infinity War (Rs. 31.23 crore), Captain Marvel (Rs. 12.86 crore), Fast and Furious 7 (Rs. 12.03 crore) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (Rs. 10.96 crore), according to trade website Box Office India.
“The Lion King has started on a good note. Will be the first choice of moviegoers this week," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the film that notched up a screen count of 2,140 in India across English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.
Box Office India said The Lion King is the eighth Hollywood film to earn a double-digit number on its first day in India. Its opening figures are higher than Disney’s previous animation fantasy comedy hit The Jungle Book that raked in Rs. 10.12 crore in the country in 2016.
Families and kids are expected to turn up in huge numbers for the film over the weekend.
Building on its localization strategies, Disney has made sure the film reaches out to masses across India.
The voice cast in the country includes Shah Rukh Khan, Aaryan Khan, Ashish Vidyarthi, Shreya’s Talpade and Asrani (Hindi), Siddharth, Arvind Swami and P. Ravishankar (Tamil), Nani and Jagapathi Babu (Telugu).
