NEW DELHI: Actor Akshay Kumar is all set to make his foray into the digital world with an original web series for American streaming service Amazon Prime Video. The show is an action thriller with the working title The End, to be developed by Abundantia Entertainment, producers of Kumar’s films like Baby (2015), Airlift (2016) and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) and Amazon’s older original Breathe.
“I have always believed in bringing innovation to my work and throughout my career, have tried to tell unique stories, work with break-through talent and be part of disruptive and high quality story-telling," Kumar said in a statement.
Together with Abundantia, Kumar said he has created some of his most memorable roles in films like Baby, Airlift and Toilet-Ek Prem Katha and has been working closely with chief executive officer Vikram Malhotra and his team on the compelling and highly intriguing story of The End.
“I can’t wait to start rolling for this action adventure series that will be an Amazon Original for global audiences. The digital world excited me and I am delighted to make my streaming debut with this show. On this medium, I want to create something extraordinary and connect with the youth," Kumar added.
Abundantia CEO and executive producer of the show Vikram Malhotra said Kumar and the production company felt the actor’s fans would be excited to see him back in an action packed role and that he would take his action and stunts to a never-seen-before level on the show.
“The scale at which The End is being conceived is enormous and speaks of our passion for creating breakout programming across genres. The storyline and the action sequences have been brilliantly crafted to give viewers a thrilling experience. Our goal is to make Amazon Prime Video the powerhouse of talent, in front as well as behind the camera, and we are thrilled to have Akshay Kumar and Abundantia Entertainment anchoring the show for us," Jennifer Salke, head, Amazon Studios, said in a statement.
