Ayushmann Khurrana on winning trail with ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’
At ₹9.25 crore, the film notched up the third highest opening day for Ayushmann KhurranaIf it turns in substantial profits, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan will be Khurrana’s eighth hit in a row
NEW DELHI : Ayushmann Khurrana just doesn’t seem to be getting it wrong. On way to notching up yet another success, Khurrana saw his latest release, comedy drama Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan looking at an opening weekend of around Rs. 30 crore, according to trade website Box Office India.
“Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan jumps on day two. Metros witness growth, while mass pockets remain strictly average. The trend suggests further growth on day three. Eyes Rs. 34 crore weekend, which is a healthy score," trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted earlier.
Box Office India said the Hitesh Kewalya directed film centered on same-sex love made much of the Mahashivratri holiday on its first day, making over Rs. 9 crore when the actual earnings should have been around Rs. 7 crore. That meant a 20% jump on Saturday with most hopes now pinned on the film’s performance on Monday. If it turns in substantial profits, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan will be Khurrana’s eighth hit in a row after Bala (Rs. 110.97 crore), Dream Girl ( Rs.139.37 crore), Article 15 ( Rs. 65.17 crore), Andhadhun ( Rs. 73.37 crore), Badhaai Ho ( Rs. 134.46 crore), Shubh Mangal Savdhaan ( Rs. 41.98 crore) and Bareilly Ki Barfi (Rs. 34.02 crore).
At Rs. 9.25 crore, the film had notched up the third highest opening day for Khurrana after Bala and Dream Girl that had made Rs. 9.32 crore and Rs. 9.43 crore respectively.
The competing release of the week, Vicky Kaushal-starrer BHOOT: Part One- The Haunted Ship opened much lower at around Rs. 16 crore, failing to grow on Saturday and Sunday after a dull opening of Rs. 5 crore on Friday. Apart from having to share eyeballs with Shubh Mangal, the horror film has also elicited mixed reviews with small towns and mass centres still fixated on Hollywood as the benchmark of horror. The film has done best business in the multiplexes of Mumbai and the south.
“BHOOT struggles, doesn’t make the desired noise at ticket window. Witnesses minimal growth on day two and three. Finds limited patronage at multiplexes. Sustaining well from Monday to Thursday is pivotal," Adarsh tweeted.
