New Delhi: Ahead of the release of his comedy drama Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, director Quentin Tarantino will be in conversation with Rolling Stone’s contributing editor David Wild for a four-part podcast interview only available on audio streaming service Spotify. The podcast features a detailed track-by-track discussion about the film’s soundtrack, the concept behind producing which was to create a space for audiences to engage with Tarantino’s vision and music from the era that shapes the film’s narrative.

The Swedish audio streaming platform was launched in India this February and had last reported two million users in the country. Its first television spot, as part of a multi-lingual brand campaign, featured Bollywood actors Anil Kapoor and Ishan Khattar as a father-son duo.

Apart from the podcast, users can check out Tarantino’s guest curation of Spotify’s “Film and TV Favorites" playlist. It features music from Tarantino’s film library, including Johnny Cash’s A Satisfied Mind (Kill Bill Vol 2.), The White Stripes’ Apple Blossom (Hateful Eight), Dusty Springfield’s Son of a Preacher Man (Pulp Fiction), Bill Withers’ Who is He (Jackie Brown) and more.

Spotify listeners will also have access to a special version of the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" soundtrack playlist before heading to theatres with unexpected, insightful audio annotations from the director himself.

“Spotify immediately came to mind as we endeavored to excite audiences around the globe about this film and immerse them in the era," Elias Plishner, executive vice president, digital marketing for Columbia Pictures, which is co-producing the film, said in a statement. “Music is intrinsically connected to moments of nostalgia and together with Spotify, we’re taking audiences on an audio journey powered by a rich soundtrack and podcast interview that both Tarantino aficionados and new fans will love."

Spotify has also curated and shared a special blogpost on the eight incredible music moments in Quentin Tarantino films.

“Our platform empowers entertainment marketers like Columbia Pictures to excite consumers about upcoming releases while delivering moments of discovery for our millions of users and celebrate creators," Andi Frieder, head of sales, entertainment industry at Spotify, said in a statement. “Our goal with this takeover is to engage listeners about the rich music of the 1960s and inspire them to head to the theatre to immerse themselves even more deeply in the era through the mind of Quentin Tarantino."

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a comedy-drama set in 1969 Los Angeles starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie that releases in India on 15 August.
